Action Story That Attempts To Educate Readers About Shia Eschatology

It was a fun read (or listen as most of it was audiobook for me). There some sections of romance, fantasy, and thrilling action. It was enthralling whenever he focused on these. However, it seems that Rosenberg's main goal was to use story form to disseminate information about Islam in general but particularly the beliefs amongst some Shia Muslims about the coming of the Twelfth Imam and to a lesser degree Iranian culture. (It would also seem he was critiquing the US relations with Iran under the Obama administration, but if so, it is done in a way that could just be read as background information that helps drive the main character's story.) I've never known much about Muslim theology in general so I can't offer an opinion for how accurate it all is, but it seems well-researched and Rosenberg has a reputation for knowing his stuff. He works it all into the story naturally. It only bothered me because I wasn't expecting it, and doing this in story keeps me in reality instead of helping me escape from it.

Knowing he is a Christian author I was impressed with how he avoided some cliché story elements. In general it seemed to be the story he wanted to tell as opposed to the story he had to alter here and there to make sure he was a good Christian writer. Props to him for that. I will also say the ending of the book was quite frustrating, but, after reflection, I must confess it was probably the best way to end it.

I would certainly recommend the book, but with the caution that elements of the story will remove the reader from it. Or if someone wants to learn more about Shia eschatology, but they don't enjoy non-fiction I would gladly recommend this as a starting point.

If you have not read any of Joel Rosenberg's books, you are missing out. These books are hard to put down they are so good. I read his last book "The Third Target" in 3 days and anxiously waiting for the arrival of "The First Hostage" to be released December 29. I have someone at work hooked on these and another is talking about getting them. Be sure to read in order of release...The Last Days, The Last Jihad
The Ezekiel Option, The Copper Scroll, Dead Heat, The Twelfth Imam, The Tehran Initiative, Damascus Countdown, The Third Target and The First Hostage. I may have to go back and start reading them all over again!

One of the greatest book series...

Absolutely one of the greatest book series I have ever had the privilege of reading! The characters and the story line will literally suck the reader, into the characters lives and emotions of each move made. I found with myself, will without a doubt, I chose a side, with certain characters and the Nation each represent. The reader becomes so engrossed, that you will find yourself celebrating your chosen characters and the Nation's they are battling for achievements. Tears when they failed, joyful when they succeed in their allotted missions. More than likely Christians, Religious Hebrews from a Messianic background, having Biblical knowledge of both Old and New Testament Scriptures and End Time prophecies, will be more in tune with this series. But I would like to suggest that any person alive today, regardless of either a reader of the Bible or the Qur'an, take time to read the series and fact check what is written in both, comparing writings quoted within the book, with each of the above mentioned.

Much More Biblically Sound End Times Fiction then the Left Behind series...

There are many positive reviews regarding this book, it is a gripping, interesting book. It truly is. I agree with the majority of positive reviews on its ability to be a good thriller. I find it a much more realistic and biblically-aligned fiction compared to the Left Behind series. The son of destruction or anti-Christ--whatever you call him--coming from a religion and culture that is training terrorists to murder people in the name of their god is far more possible today then some nobody politician from Europe. I read Left Behind and as much I respect the authors effort, their series fell short for me.
Iran already has the ability to get the bomb right now, so this book is very relevant for this turblant Muslim terrorist dominated age.

There two things, flaws, in this series that I make note of. First flaw is the main plot had a pretty slow start. Rosenberg wasted too many chapters on David's childhood and his frankly very pointless fishing trip flashback. And this romance with Marseille character he had honestly was not interesting or appealing to me whatsoever. Marseille was a boring and one-dimensional character for me. I just skipped those chapters altogether because it adds nothing really to the plot. Seriously, if you're going to have a love-interest how about having a woman write your woman character, huh? Its not that big of a deal though, not enough to avoid reading the book. Just skip anything with that Marsellie character and you'll be fine.

I love to read, but it has been awhile since I found a book that captured my complete attention like this one. The middle east, reunIted States, threefold all figure in this Christian thriller. Background is revealed early in the book and sets the stage for David, who becomes the main character and His family and friends. Believe me, there is enough pulse pounding excitement to keep a gal reading late into the night! The astounding appearance 's of the imam and Jesus, and the enthusiastic response to them both (though expressed in such startling contrast) was a touching reminder of how conversion feels. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

'The Twelfth Imam' described apocalyptic terrorist acts along with miraculous visions and deliverances, to the point that, for the first half of this initial episode, I thought God was in-control of the events occurring in Iran, but no, there is a distinctly different 'false prophet' at-play to steer the leaders of Iran towards a nuclear attack against the Israeli and American 'infidels.' It is clear that an Armageddon confrontation will ensue in the subsequent sequels. I only give it a 4 since there are so many outstanding events, relationships and nuclear-war threats that still need to be 'played-out' in subsequent episodes.
