Join [Danielle Blackwood] at that moonlit crossroads where magick and the sacred feminine intersect with astrology . . . Let The Twelve Faces of the Goddess be a lantern for you. Steven Forrest, author of The Inner Sky
About the Author
Danielle Blackwood is the astrology columnist for SageWoman magazine and Banyen Books and Sound, and has studied and practiced astrology for more than thirty years. She is certified in the Principles and Practice of Contemporary Psychological Astrology through her teacher, world renowned astrologer and author Erin Sullivan. Danielle is also a registered counseling therapist (RTC), specializing in working with women in the areas of self-esteem, sexuality, body image, life transitions, and cultivating a connection with the sacred feminine through personalised rites of passage ceremony. Danielle encourages clients all over the world to live a life of authenticity and radical self-acceptance, helping them find meaning on their journey and consciously reframe their stories through an archetypal lens. As a priestess, she has been facilitating workshops, classes, ceremony and retreats on astrology and women's mysteries since 1994. Danielle lives in an enchanted cottage on magical Salt Spring Island in the Salish Sea with her husband, Jamie, a six-toed cat named Watson, and the newest member of the family, a rescue Staffordshire Terrier named Daisy.

With each goddess entry, Blackwood includes a pathworking, ritual, and recipe (oil, incense, bath salts, etc). The rituals and recipes seem deeply inspired, rather than spells that often appear in witchcraft books that seem repetitive, bland, or (in the case of recipes) untested by the author.
This author writes from a feminist perspective that is warm and encouraging. However, I hope she considers writing a companion book for the god archetypes because she was able to address issues of inequality without making the topic too dry, or dismissing the male divine entirely. I think many pagans such as myself want to connect with healthy masculine energy as well as the divine feminine. Unfortunately, books that really delve into the topic are often lacking in pagan publishing.
Because I am a total novice on the topic I will not even attempt to speak on how authoritative the book is on Astrology or magick. My interest in spirituality and religion is a desire to understand more about different belief systems and their contribution to meaning and purpose in every day life.
As a novice I found this book very approachable. I enjoyed delving into the visualization exercises accompanying each Goddess and I could see the ways in which different women I know would find themselves in their associated Goddess. What I found most useful and compelling was the exploration of womanhood and femininity through different archetypes. Although the magick components might feel new agey to some I felt the tone of the book was more scholarly and as such I immediately fell in love with it. I have even revisited sections of the book to reread passages. An unexpectedly enjoyable read and resource.
Do not be fool by the author’s easy style. The book is filled with deep, heavy topics. The author approaches such concepts in a way that makes them not only graspable but interesting as well.
It is difficult to write a review for such an informative and powerful book. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in astrology. It is stuffed with information and good for any level, whether beginners, expects, or just curious.
