This novel is so sweet and heart touching I couldn't read it fast enough. It's hard and sad when two people give up love for their ambitious careers. Fourteen years later, Erik and Beryl come face to face when Erik gets hired as Beryl's boss. Beryl sees the writing on the wall and excepts her pink slip any day. And when Erik see's Beryl for the first time in years, old feelings start to rekindle.
They gave their love away years ago. Is it too late for them?
Erik and Beryl were childhood sweethearts until their different career choices broke them apart and took them in different directions. Years later they are both high position leaders in competing companies
Now that the President of Beryl's company is retiring and will be replaced .What will happen when she finds out the man stepping in is the boy who left her heartbroken and abandoned 15 years ago....and he might do it all over again ??
This was a nostalgic , sweet second chance romance that was short ,but the author had such a beautiful way of being so descriptive and in the moment that the characters and scenery just came to life off the pages and made the story feel 100 pages longer.
I loved getting to know Beryl (Love that name !!) & Erik through their struggles and heartache to finding what they once shared all over again 15 years later.
I also loved that the backdrop was during winter time ..it makes a love story like this more homey and warm during the Holidays .
Beryl and Erik were engaged once, years ago--until their jobs got in the way. They went their separate ways, until this year's holiday party--when Beryl finds out that Erik's her new boss. They try to keep away from each other--there's a strict no-dating policy in the office, and there's a whole lot of hurt feelings and resentment to get over to boot--but life, and their undeniable attraction to each other, has other ideas...
Overall I enjoyed this story, though the main characters had a tendency to flip-flop back and forth between we're meant to be together; I can't live without him/her and forget it; this will never work. I liked how they resolved their issues in the end, though, and the twelve nights motif was very sweet. The rest of the series has potential; I'd definitely like to see more of Blue Moon Lake.
Rating: 3 1/2 stars / C+
Beryl and Erik loved each other once. They planned to get married; they planned a life together. A professional opportunity presented itself to Erik, one that required him to move away from Beryl, and he took it, leaving her stunned and heartbroken.
In the intervening fifteen years, Beryl has made a comfortable life for herself, if not a passionate one. She is the CFO of the company she worked for when Erik left, she has a small circle of close friends, and she's happy, albeit a bittersweet sort of happy. Erik, too, has a comfortable life. His professional success has led to him being announced as the new president of the company Beryl works for, a hire that may lead to her getting fired.
These two have a wee tad of resentment built up for each other. She's hurt and angry that he left her, and he's hurt and angry that she didn't support his decision to do something he felt was right for him. When they meet again, there are a myriad of feels going on, one of which might just be lust.
This is a quick, emotional novella, the story of two people never should have parted. Fifteen years is a long time, though. Maybe they've changed too much in the interim. And since it's set at Christmas time, it makes a sweet little holiday read.

This is a sweet second chance story.
Beryl Foster has achieved all she wanted for her career. She's at the top as the CFO for her company and has achieved great respect among her coworkers. However, when the exiting president of the company announces his replacement, she is shaken to the core.
Erik Lindholm has achieved it all, he's reached the office of president. He should be happy, but when he realizes that Beryl Foster is the CFO of the company he's now in charge of, everything changes.
Both have a history - together. However, that history was broken 15 years prior when they were each bent on achieving their career goals. Flash forward and they are each re-evaluating everything. Were the decisions made so long ago the right ones? Could they have made a terrible mistake? Is there any way to fix things between them?
This is a sweet story of two people coming to grips with past decisions in a more mature way. They're older and wiser now. They are willing to admit to themselves and each other that they made a mistake and work toward fixing what went wrong.
Language - PG / PG13 - some profanity and cussing
Romance - PG / PG13 - kissing and fade away romance (not graphic)
