Charles and Julia, I did not feel were the typical couple that you might find in most romance books. Charles attempts to court Julia with romance and the humorous scenes when things did not go as he planned found me chuckling out loud. Julia’s reasons for turning down his suit were heartbreaking, that she felt she had to sacrifice her love for Charles. However Lady Wallingham, the dragon and her meddling ways did not disappoint. I was touched to see the love of a mother when she decided to help her son instead of getting in his way while trying to win over the woman he loved. The best part of the book was the way it ended with such a special surprise that brought so much emotion to me. I felt Elisa was able to create emotions of passion, humor, love, angst and the chemistry between the two main characters that made this book such a success.
I LOVED this novella! LOVED. IT.
If you have been following the series, you know who Charles is and have read of his mishaps while wooing a certain widow. You also got to know him a little better while he was giving James advice in the previous book - but even with all this former knowledge - you don't really know Charles until you read this book!!
Charles has wanted Julia ever since he met her, however at that time her husband was very much alive and they kept their distance from each other. Fast forward 2 years, Charles has been wooing Julia for the past year and wants to marry her - but she has a secret and even though she dearly loves Charles, she will not marry him.
This novella is fantastic, it is well written, flows wonderfully, the love scenes are steamy (YAY!) and the ending is going to bring a tear to your eye!
This book is part of a series, but it could easily be read as a stand alone title - personally I think you should read the entire series but at the very least read the previous book "When a Girl Loves an Earl", it will give you a bit more backstory on Charles and Julia.
Julia was married before and she feel she knows her worth. And she feels she is not worthy of marrying Charlie. Even though, Charlie is who she thinks about all the time. The first time she met him, she felt a strong attraction and that was the first time she ran away from London. This is why she has tried to keep her distance from him. Julia has to learn to overcome her feeling unworthiness for Charlie, so her attraction can grow.
Charlie has always wanted Julia. Charlie has tried to woo Julia for 2 years and she still pushes him away. Charlie had to show Julia that she was worthy of being happy. Charlie shows complete patience as he woos Julia into accepting a life with happiness and not settling for just okay.
This was a short story that shows 2 people who are destined to be together. Julia is completed by the love of Charlie. In the end, everything they wanted comes together. And Julia learns what love is no matter what the circumstances are.
This is great novella. The author did a great job developing the story with the quirks of the characters. I look forward to reading more from the Elisa Braden.

Charles,I wanted his story bad, like really bad, mostly because of the dragon lady and like mother, like son,she says like it is and doesn't care who she is going to upset,he's going for it and doesn't care either, well,he does, but only for that one person,he's a man who knows what he wants and achieves his goals no matter what.In this case a true happily ever after,it was easy for me to fell in love with the story.I recommend this novella for people who search for something real in a story,it has bumps on the road,it has humor,a destroyed hat(yes,it had to be destroyed, that's a real issue right there ladies) and it has love, plenty of it.Thank you Elisa!
*This novella was given to me as an ARC in exchange for my honest review,I bow this time for the privilege! *
The heroine and hero immediately fall in lust with each other, despite all impulses of logic and common decency. From this point, having found "the one" nothing is allowed to get in their way.
There is a lot of sex and bodice-ripping which helps to disguise a lack of plot. The hope is that this will sweep the reader along so swiftly that she will not notice any deficiencies.
The format is quite successful, but if you are looking for subtle descriptions of a meeting of minds or want lots of social comedy you will not find it in these books.
Lady Wallingham has been portrayed as imperious and domineering, but with a clear and sympathetic insight into other people's problems, which she often tackles in her own inimitable fashion; in this story, I found her unlikeable right up until the end of the main story, ready to destroy her son's happiness without any discussion with him [he is 40,not 4!] and forcing the heroine to make the heart-breaking decision. It didn't sit right with what has been portrayed of Lady Wallingham in other stories. The turnaround was too fast and therefore not credible. Great writer, but I'll stick with her full-length novels.
Lovely dedication from the author to her band of blue stockings which I am proud and honoured to be part of. Thank you Elisa another cracking book to the Rescued to Ruin Series.
This is an honest review following the author's very kind advanced copy. Note to readers I have however purchased fully paid copy also as want it in my re-read collection.
