This is one of those books that readers will start and wont be able to put down. Abigail draws readers in from the first page. So many readers will be able to relate to her feeling of being adrift, of not living up to her own expectations, never mind everyone else's. She struggles with confidence in herself and her abilities and worries that she will never measure up.
The chance car accident that brings Ben into her life has the kind of life changing affect a person can never imagine. Ben is a sweetheart. Readers will absolutely fall in love with him right along with Abigail. That hardly means he's perfect, though. Ben does his best to show Abigail what a beautiful and special person she is, but Abigail makes it plenty hard on him.
The romance that develops between these two is a serious emotional roller coaster. There were times I wanted to grab them by the shoulders and shake them until they stopped being foolish, but other times when I just couldn't get enough of them. During their developing relationship, both Ben and Abigail face some serious personal problems and huge choices. Neither one handles everything perfectly and the ups and down it causes in their relationship will have readers captivated.
This is one of the most realistic romances I have read. The characters are flawed make some bad decisions at times. They love each other, but still manage to hurt each other as well. Their love only makes those painful moments all the more agonizing. Even having been privileged enough to have read this novel during it's initial stages and knowing what was coming, I still cried at certain parts in the book. Hamm does a phenomenal job of capturing readers' heartstrings and putting them through the ringer. I highly recommend this book and I can't wait for Hamm's next book.
Abigail turns 25 and thinks her life is going no where. Her relationships never last past the third date and she is so sure she will be alone for the remainder of her life. At her birthday party Abby's sister gives her a list she found in the attic, a bucket list of sorts that she wrote at the tender age of 15 for a school assignment. She is taken aback by how many dreams she has not even attempted to accomplish. Her daily life seems to be built around fear...and she fears most everything.
As she is traveling down the highway in a downpour, she is involved in a 4 car pile up. Ben Harris is the young gentleman that rear ended her before another car slammed into her vehicle and Ben feels responsible. He follows her to the hospital and when they look into each others eyes there is an immediate connection.
Wow, what a ride! This was an emotional read and there was quite a bit of angst, but there was no cheating or betrayal which is a big plus in my books. I have to say I wish the angst would have hit later in the book and at times, as sweet as Ben was, he said and did some stupid, heartbreaking things. He was so caught up in his own pain that he failed Abby in a big way which was totally out of his character.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to read a sweet, loving romance with no man-whores involved. I was very taken by this story.
It's so nice to read a book that is not anything like most of the overly angst-ridden books about Broken, Beautiful people of any Shades of color that seem to have flooded the market lately. I felt great after reading it and not in need of vast quantities of anti-depressants!
So thank you to the author for this beautiful love story! I cried, I laughed, I cheered, I got annoyed by some of their actions but was always rooting for them & in the end they didn't let me down. HEAs rock! I could go on & on about everything I loved but you should read it for yourself! Now I've gotta go ask my siblings why we don't have cool inside joke names for each other...
P.S. I greatly look forward to any new works by this author. If they continue to be in this vein, I will buy them all! :D
