I loved this book. I think it is one of the best books I have ever read. I like it because it has the original base line of the Rapunzel story you all know, but then, it has twists to it. There are a lot of things you don't expect. The Prince finds Rapunzel in a very different way than you would expect. There are also some unexpected creatures in the book. One of the strange creatures you can find out about in this book is a green person who helps Rapunzel out.

The Prince is not one of the most sporty people. He enjoys chess but does not like hunting or any other sport his family can think of. Rapunzel is a bit self-absorbed at first, but then she starts thinking of others more. One thing Rapunzel found in the tower is a cat, who she names Sir Kitty. (I don't understand why the cat is called Sir Kitty because the cat is a girl.)

This is an amazing book. I read it for school, and I was supposed to do reading projects for it. I wrote a song about the original Rapunzel story, which goes to the tune of "What Child Is This." It fits with this story, because a song is sung in the book about the adventures of the story. (I don't want to give too much away, but I don't think I have said too much.)

The Damsel and the Knight

There was a damsel in distress.
Trapped inside a tower.
The king and queen sent the royal guards.
They searched for many an hour.
Help! Help! Said the damsel fair
With her dirty dress and her tangled hair.
Help! Help! Come and get me out!
Was what they heard her shout.

A knight in armor heard her cries
While hunting in the woods that day.
He climbed her hair and got her down
In the most amazing way.
Thank you for such a save!

I usually don't like books about princesses, but I loved this book. I love this book because it is funny and heroic. The book has parts that are similar to the movie Tangled (a Rapunzel story). I think that this story of Rapunzel is better than other Rapunzel stories, because Rapunzel is a teenager in this book so she is a not so babyish like other Rapunzel books. Who would also like this book like me? I think it would be liked by girls ages 7 - 15.

A Kid's Review on April 11, 2012
Format: Kindle Edition
It is the story about 2 characters at the same time! it's like reading to different books that happen at the same time and place. It is a great mix on the story Rapunzel. I normally don't like fairy tales and princesses, but I loved this Book!

My daughter and I just finished this book. We enjoyed the book, it was cute, but I was hoping for more of a modern twist that this offered. It wasn't too much off from the main story, it just told the story through Rapunzel's eyes and she complains of the typical things one might complain about as a teen. My other minor complaint is that the ENTIRE book, up until the very last couple chapters (and those chapters were short) was about Rapunzel and the tower. My daughter and I found ourselves getting very near to the end of the book, and she STILL hadn't even been discovered. So, this left little time for us to giggle and read about her and her rescuer..maybe that was just us. Cute book though. We have all three (Beauty and the Beast, and Sleeping Beauty) and we just started Beauty and the Beast and I already see a similarity that could end up being too repetitive.. 4 stars because my daughter did like the Rapunzel book. She is a, rather mature, 6 year old.

Well, if the cover doesn't do it for you, then the fact that it was written by Wendy Mass should. Seriously, I LOVE all of Wendy Mass's books, especially the Willow Falls series! The Candymakers, Every Soul a Star, and of course this series are a few of my faves from her. She is just such a perfectly awesome writer!!

I also love fairy tales of all kinds, especially the ones where they take the fairytale and change it a little (like this series). But I just could not put this book down! It's that good, really. I'm twelve, almost thirteen, and I have loved this book since I was 11.

I'd definitely recommend this book to kids like 8 and up because it's so appropriate, especially for younger kids. It's really a super great read, and overall very cute and funny and interesting.

You should totally get this book and the rest in the series because you will absolutely adore them!! Also try some others by Wendy Mass, they're all perfect and you'll probably love them too!

These are really great books. My daughter loves fairy tales told with a different twist (as do I). These stories offer that fun, different perspective. The only drawback is, my daughter became super interested in these stories...and then, for whatever reason, they stopped publishing new books in the series:( Sadly, we had to look elsewhere for alternative fairy tales on her grade level.

Eh, took a long time for my daughter to get thru this one. Wish it was written in current times, some of the words I never even heard of before yet alone my 3rd grader! (who is at a 6th grade reading level). Concept is wonderful, just needs some "help" with the writing for girls to keep interested.
Just sad I bought #2 and #3 at the same time....I doubt she will be reading these.
