I'll try not to say everything everyone else had said. Suffice it to say I find this series very satisfying. I bought read the first one and didn't continue at that time. It was good but I felt something was missing. When I discovered I had these two that I had not read, I got back into the series. Book two is better than one. If you have read one, go to two even if you are not raving about the first one. A lot more is explained--and there is a free prequel available from the author if you wan to know more about Holly, the witch, and her ex-boyfriend Gabriel. Her life in the human world is tricky--similar but not quite like the "haven" where she was born and raised. The author paints vivid, lively characters who really breath. The tension between shifter Adam and Nick the PI is palpable --even in print. Adam becomes her boyfriend but all is not roses here. Holly is really holding back and it starts to look like she might be more than a little attracted to Nick--a human. Cassie is sweet and now her boss at Siren Song. We see Cassie having to grow into that roll and Cassie becoming interested in both Nick and Chief Lincoln. Evangeline starts to grow on Holly but something isn't right . And her fawning crew taking up space at Siren Song everyday and not buying things during the summer rush? Well that is just wrong. And of course there is a side of murder--which actually begins as a missing person case. All in all--a lot happens in this book and it is a great read.

Book two in the series picked up right where book one ended, an uneasy truce between Holly and the newest witch in the manor, Evangeline. Evangeline is taking a break from acting and trying to beef up her spell knowledge to use on next season's tv series. She also seems to be quite friendly with Holly's boyfriend, Adam. Unfortunately Holly hasn't had much time for Adam lately because she "found" a ghost on the beach who didn't even know she was a ghost. It turns out that it is the cousin of one of the girls who works at the coffee shop where Holly works called Siren's Song. Nick, a PI who is very good looking and Holly's friend, has been hired to find the missing girl, never knowing she is dead. Holly and Evangeline join forces to find the body and report it to the police so the investigation can proceed. Meanwhile the ghost, who has no memories, is staying at the manor with Posy.
There is a lot of distrust between characters (Holly and Evangeline, Adam and Nick, Cassie and Holly, etc.) due to the fact that Holly and Nick are investigating full speed ahead with no time for the others. Naturally jealousy rears it's ugly head with suspicions.
It is interesting to see how different authors handle witchcraft and magic, and I like Ms. Garrett's low key methods of magic used when humans can't observe it. I also like the way she incorporates magic into their lives and how Holly covers up Evangeline's misspoken comments. I also like the way the author keeps you guessing not only about the mystery, but about the interactions between characters (are they friends or not?) and even their magical limitations.
I think this series is well worth reading. Nothing graphic or gory, just a witchy good time. I can't wait to try the next book in the series!

Witch Holly Boldt doesn't know how to keep a low profile in the mortal world despite the danger if supernaturals are discovered. When a young woman stumbles onto the beach frightened and alone, the fact the victim is a ghost doesn't stop Holly from getting involved. This is book 2 in the series so the community of quirky supernatural, and human, characters around the main character are starting to gain strength and depth. The author does a wonderful job of weaving the magical elements into the mortal clues of the murder investigation so that they form a solid and unique case. If you enjoy a little sweet romance with your cozy paranormal mystery, this is a series you will enjoy.

A woman waving and yelling for help at the beach attracts Holly’s attention. She does not appear to know she is dead or anything other than her name. Luckily, Holly is just the witch for the job.
These books are full of emotion and hold my attention from start to finish. Holly is a great witch, but she is insecure because of her past. It is so much like a real person is going through the scenes in the story. I can’t wait to start a new one by this author.

I have enjoyed these books so much that I just bought the next in the series which I will start as soon as I finish this review. Love the characters...too bad I can't qualify to live in Ms. Posey beautiful home for wayward supers. Hate being a normal...lol! Highly recommended for a fun paranormal cozy.

Another great read, the romance plot thickens for Holly and Adam. There's a news witch in town with a dark secret and there is also a murder to solve.

Are two witches really better than one?

If you are Holly Boldt, a second resident witch is not a good thing. Especially when she has eyes for your boyfriend, and takes up space at your work.
Add in a murder, a confused ghost and bbq sauce on a competition gown and you have a sure fire mess. It will take a potion making witch to work it all out.
A great read.
