This locket is large, this is no dainty, discrete little locket, it's a family crest locket which means its meant to be noticed, it's larger than the picture shown by Amazon. The locket size itself is the same size as the crest on the replica wrist cuff worn by the Cullen boys in the movie, which is about 1-1/2 inches long and 1-1/4 inches wide. The link that connects the chain to the locket runs through a link in the chain itself which keeps the clasp at the back of your neck instead of allowing it to slip around to the front. If like mine, the link is slightly off center it's easily enough fixed with a pair of needle nose plyers if it bothers you, however it's not likely to be noticed when worn. The locket would only hang oddly if you kept trying to place the clasp at the exact center of the back of your neck. Should the hinge of your locket be easy to open and close don't worry about keeping this locket closed as it has a magnetic closure which is strong enough to keep it closed. Mine was a little stiff to open at first but opening and closing it a few times has loosened it a little. The locket appears to have been painted, however I can't tell if it's just a clear gloss coat or an actual pewter colored paint finish. The word "Twilight" is etched on the back with TM and copyright info printed along the back edge. My only real complaint about the locket is the way the hinge was designed, the large and very obvious hinge makes it look a little cheap whereas a smaller more discrete hinge or a hidden hinge would have made it look classier.
There are variations from locket to locket, I picked mine up at a convention and saw a couple side-by-side, one locket I saw had the top and bottom edges not lining up properly on one side but the hinge didnt look bent or damaged. A possible explanation for this is that the lockets may be molded or even machined and then buffed to take any of the rough edges off of them caused by the process, since this would be done by a person it is possible for too much to be taken off. You're probably better off buying one you can see and picking it out yourself but keep that in mind if you buy yours off the internet or ebay.
One more thing to note is that this is not a replica piece of either the movies or the book locket in 'Breaking Dawn', it has a replica of the Cullen crest on it and contains a picture of Edward (who looks angry) in the left side and Bella (who looks bored) in the right side, but that's as far as it goes. It vaguely resembles the locket Bella gave to Renesmee, with the vines on it, but that locket was gold, small and had an inscription and a family picture inside it.
Altogether it's a nice Twilight necklace for the fangirls.
I would definately buy this item for all my friends and if I had to make the purchase again, I would without hesitation!
