Twin Peaks: The Return is a Masterpiece
Verified purchase
I loved every single second of this 18-episode arc, I'm still buzzing from having watched it and can't get it out of my mind. Twin Peaks: The Return is amazing, you just need to succumb to the Lynchian rules of this twisted, multi-dimensional universe and understand that when watching that vibe and feel tell the story as much as action. It's a really, really brilliant show, that creates a mood and atmosphere for the viewer unlike any tv series I have seen before. I don't know that Twin Peaks: The Return is for everybody per se, but I found it one of the most captivating pieces of art I have personally experienced.

the owls are still not what they seem

Most likely of the same actors and characters as the first two seasons 25 years ago. The character’s characters have deveoped over 25 years in a plausible way - at least plausible in a David Lynch universe.

If you never saw the first two seasons back in the 90’s you dont even try to watch this until you do. It’s hard enough to grasp what the hell is going on even if you were a big fan from back then. Trying to get your head around this “story” cold turkey will just bore and wietd you out.

OK, you were a big fan back in the day and like the Frost/Lynch style. You will most likely like this. Far better than 90% of the sequals I’ve seen. Alternately absurdly/darkly hilarious in and intensly creepy in te next.

This is not the original show
Verified purchase
Before you watch it, enter with the mindset that you are watching a different series. Yes it continues the plot from the original show and most of the cast members return. Those who want to see how those characters turn out are eventually rewarded throughout this season. However the tone, pacing, and even how information is presented is so different than before. Any given episode with have at least 20 minutes of scenes with no dialogue, imagery that won't be explained for episodes, and even scenes that have NOTHING to do with anything. It is rewarding to watch, but it takes a while to get there. If you have a low threshold for patience, and/or pretty indifferent to the old series, read the plot summaries on Wikipedia instead. Personally I liked it for what it was but thanked god there was a function to skip ahead 10 seconds at a time.

Embarrassment
Verified purchase
I was a huge Twin Peaks fan, but I am ashamed for Frost and Lynch after seeing this. Meandering nonsense as boring as watching paint dry. The original TP turned metaphysical, but I could follow it and appreciate it. This, on the other hand, is willfully contrived pseudo-art. This is the reward for viewers' loyalty? Incoherent weirdness purely for the sake of weirdness with smatterings of gratuitous gore. If you, too, are a fan of the original Twin Peaks, then preserve that good memory and don't ruin it with this feeble excuse of a follow up. It sinks to an unfathomable low. Such an unworthy finish to so many great carriers is just sad. By the way, some of the actors died after filming, so you do get their parting shots.

By far the worst season
Verified purchase
This season is way too artsy and abstract to be entertaining to most viewers. This season throws a number of the beloved characters and the setting from the first two seasons by the wayside. It is hard to recognize as the same show. This season features ridiculously long abstract or symbolic scenes that would only appeal to elitist art critics. Lynch keeps throwing new and unexplained characters, places, and subplots at you that never get explained. This is typical of Lynch, but does not make for entertaining TV.

If you didn't care for the pacing in 1990's Twin Peaks, you'll find this agonizing
Verified purchase
I was told by a friend of mine about how much she liked Twin Peaks. So I decided to watch the 90's seasons and movie before jumping into "The Return". The pacing from the 90's seasons was a little too slow and I didn't care for it but the story was good enough to keep going.

Now watching "The Return" I've gotten into the habit of clicking the skip forward 10 second button every time just to get the gist of the scene and only stopping for story driven dialogue and quicker scenes. I've now stopped in the middle of the 7th episode and don't plan to return to this season, wishing I hadn't spent so much money on something I don't plan to finish now as it is pure agony and a waste of my time.

Bottom line is if you are a fan of David Lynch, I'm guessing this is perfect for you. But if you plan to introduce him to other people, give some other options to start off with.

The Worst!
Verified purchase
Absolutely horrific. I wish I could get my money back. Horrible, horrible, horrible. I purchased the entire series thinking it was going to be good, and this is the worst series I have seen in my entire life. The plot is all over the place, things get dragged on and on and on until they become tedious. Stupid, over-the-top, and far-fetched stuff like the origins of Bob from an atomic explosion, or a speaking squeaky brain attached to branches. David Lynch is trying so hard to be a hermetic intellectual, but this series was a total flop.

Lynch's greatest work of art...so far!
Verified purchase
Frost and Lynch are the Lennon and McCartney of TV. This series is an epic work of art on the level of James Joyce's Ulysses. No other director alive today could create a work that will inspire millions and millions of interpretive theories.
