Melanie always jumps right on into "love". Every guy has to be " the One". Aaaand they ALL run away. She goes too fast and too deep for any regular guy to be on board with. After he last disastrous relationship she asks her best friend (and roommate) Patti to help her date properly, and so the Boyfriend Bylaws were born to keep her safe from her own bad habits. Will she be able to date successfully? Or will she have to forfeit her beloved car? Will she ever find "the One"? Or is it a futile search as she is beginning to fear? Why is Matt so tempting?
***This fun *short* chiclit series is suitable for young adult through adult readers who enjoy *clean* romance and offbeat humor :)
That said, I really enjoyed this short little story. Melanie has bad luck with men and jumps into a "relationship" at every chance, only to find herself burned. Her good friend and roommate comes up with some rules to help her find a healthy relationship and what she discovers surprises even her.
The characters weren't super developed, but the reader gets a feel for who they are and their personalities, knowing that it's a novella. I loved some of the funny situations Mel found herself in--very giggle-worthy.
Content: technically clean, but brief references to intimate things and situations.
Thank goodness for best friends who are very self-secure and know what's best for you. Melanie is a treasure, a delight, and had me laughing out loud at her antics!
This book is wonderful and will pick up your spirits and give you a great feeling about yourself, your good friends, and all of those loser bozo's that weren't worth your time back in the day. At least they are probably good for a chuckle now, right ;-)
Thank you, Susan, for the best laugh I've had in a long time! Kudos!
First up in "The Boyfriend Bylaws" a gym and yoga instructor named Melanie keeps getting her heart broken over and over again, until her friend Patti lays down some basic ground rules for dating, AKA the Bylaws. Patti requires some heavy collateral, so Melanie had better get it right this time.
The bonus short story "My Last Blind Date" is in a similar vein, with software firm employee Rachel being dateless on St. Valentine's Day, and her friend Ellen suggesting yet another blind date set-up, even though the last three ended disastrously. "Fourth time's a charm," she says.
Entertaining and funny, this would be great for beach or travel reading, and I can totally see the "Bylaws" as a movie with Channing Tatum and Emma Stone.
