A magical reunion filled with passion, angst and the reawakening of forgotten love! With TWIST OF FATE, Jill Shalvis brings fans of her Heartbreaker Bay series a new novella taking place on the outskirts of that world. We don't see the typical cast of players, but there is mention of a couple of them as well as the setting.

Diego quickly caught a reader's eye as a character with a lot of baggage to unravel. He still lives in the shadow of the heartbreak that drove him out of town ten years ago, and we can't wait to learn the details of his story.

Daisy is a bit of a mystery. She was his first and only love and left to pursue her dreams, yet now she's back in town and seemingly his estranged brother's best friend.

I recommend this story to anyone wanting a quick delve into a Shalvis world to try her writing style out and of course to die hard fans as well, because we always wait to devour anything new. You can always count on delectable characters, passion and angst alike tearing the characters apart and then putting them back together again for a satisfying ending.

Daisy is an event planner. Currently she is working as a wedding planner. She finds it ironic that she is working on a job that brings her back into contact with the man who showed her love cannot last.

Diego is called home to help the brother he hasn't spoken to or seen in years. He has long been taught to bury his emotions. It is one thing to help his brother, it is another to come face to face with the first woman he ever loved... the only woman he has ever loved.

Daisy learned long ago to only depend on herself. Diego is a man who is an island of one. He never counts on anyone for anything. They find that whenever they are around each other, the magic is still there. It doesn't matter what they are doing, they are wary and haunted by memories of what was.

Can they possibly find their way back to each other?

I really enjoyed this novella; I almost wish it were longer. i have not read all of the other books in the series, yet, so maybe they are involved in some of them. i sure hope so. I love the premise of how they were each set up by the two grooms in the wedding that Daisy is planning, and Diego is best man for. It was fun reading how they made their way and figured out how to work with one another to save their love.

Second Chance at First Love

Twist of Fate is a novella from the Heartbreaker Bay series but can be read as a stand alone. This is a second chance at first love with comical matchmakers providing the excuses to interact with each other. Diego and Daisy were childhood sweethearts that believed they had their happily ever after but then Diego's father had a severe stroke, his brother left him to handle his father's care, the house and the family tattoo business. Daisy left for college and tried to maintain a long distance relationship but finally gave up when Diego kept pushing her away. Diego has returned to be the best man at his brother's wedding and Daisy is the wedding planner. Now that they are face to face, they must resolve the past in order to have their future. This was a quick, easy read with fun characters and a range of emotions and issues.

TWIST OF FATE takes us back to Ms. Shalvis’ Heartbreaker Bay series for a quick story featuring some new characters and some old friends as well. The 1001 Dark Nights line is designed as a quick bite of an established series through a novella – and, indeed, this one is definitely short and sassy. And I really cannot say much in this review without giving away spoilers. So. If you’ve heard about the Heartbreaker Bay series and wondered if you’d like it then this is a good way to find out.

Everything you really need to know before starting this story is in the cover description. To go much beyond that is telling you the story, and I do not do that style of review. This second chance romance will bring together again two people who once could have made it but life happened, hardship was experienced, and through lack of communication, they drifted apart until there was nothing left. Now brought together again through Diego’s brother’s wedding and Daisy being both a friend and the wedding planner they are forced to deal with each other in the now. There is anger, hurt, and blame on both sides for neither was solely at fault for their eventual break-up. Daisy and Diego have to face some harsh realities, the fact that their passion for each other has not diminished over time, and some serious healing to be done on several fronts before their happy ending can become a reality.

I enjoyed TWIST OF FATE and being back in the Heartbreaker Bay world again – yet, this is very short even for a novella. I won’t tell an author how or what to write, that’s not my place but I wanted so much more of Daisy and Diego to understand them, to go beyond the surface. So, I liked their story, it’s full of emotions, shenanigans by Rocco and Tyler, steaming moments and a love that has been neglected but still burns for this couple.
