Highly readable and absorbing, I found it hard to put this book down. The well-fleshed characters drew me in, and and the dialogue felt natural. As a mother myself, I could see bits and pieces of myself and my kids throughout the story and at the end I understood the dynamics of those relationships better in my own life.
Although the subject matter is difficult, the traumatic parts are not graphic. I highly recommend this book for late teens as well as adults.
We're intimately involved here with two girls. One, Sarah, is fourteen, the other, Judith, eighteen. Both are in the throes of unwanted pregnancies, though their lack of desire to give birth are for different reasons. Beyond that, I can write
very little here about the action without destroying the suspense and the surprises that abound throughout the story. What I can say is that you will find yourself on tenterhooks somewhere around page five and that you'll stay there till the last page. No. Even after the last page.
Go for it.
M. Night Shyamalan needs to read this book to get his mojo back. The secrets, turns, and twists are well-played and the character development is what drives that. The story tension dips slightly after the well-crafted opening. But it is easily ignored as the story takes off in several braided plot lines (not an easy task), converging to a well-played conclusion that left me as satisfied as if the story elements were the basis of a gourmet feast I'd just consumed. Reality smacks us hard sometimes, and the examination of the courage it takes to ultimately face that reality builds until Sarah owns it--wherever it leads her.
Bottom line: it's a 5. Go read it. In a few years, you'll enjoy the movie.
This YA book contains very serious subject matters of gang rape and other things which would be spoilers if I mentioned them. Without talking to my daughters, I don't know if I'd recommend it for my granddaughters who are under 15. On the other hand, I do think my daughters ought to read this book as a warning of what can happen if a mother (parent) is not vigilant and doesn't communicate well with offspring. Also, this book can serve as a warning to parents to educate young daughters on what can happen if they are too trusting.
Definitely the title TWISTED is fitting for this fast read. I recommend it to all readers of a certain age.
I was so hooked by the characters and how they moved the story along. I read Twisted in one sitting...I couldn't put it down.
It was very disturbing throughout as I felt so sad and worried for Sarah. As a mother of 3 girls I found it gut wrenching that she had no parent to talk to about anything. It was breaking my heart.
I was completely invested in how the two girls were weighing their options.
The final twist in the story was not what I expected. I really didn't see that coming!
I am in awe of Ms Brody's talent...Twisted is so well done, so well written. She certainly has great insight into the teenage mind.
Twisted is an emotional roller coaster ride. I highly recommend it.
