The one redeeming point of this book was that there was an actual plotline, and the murder mystery aspect of it was both well-plotted and interesting. The technical aspects of the story, once again, were well-done. That being said, I’m not sure they made up for the characters and their motivations. This whole series has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I’m exhausted by the cruelty and narcissism of the characters and the banality of the social drama in their lives. This book, in particular, felt like a left-over storyline, introduced in an attempt to contrive more drama in the quickly fizzling plotline of the first two books.
I sincerely have to caution you if you choose to pick up this series: this isn’t for teen readers. This series is full of sex, drugs, sexual assault/attempted rape, murder, and cruelty by 98% of the characters. It isn’t a fuzzy romance despite the sparkly covers, and despite the luke-warm ratings I’ve given the series, I can’t honestly say that I’d recommend it to most readers.
After the ending of Broken Prince I was in complete shock and needed to know what happened ASAP. This book took us on even more twists and turns than the previous books and my head was spinning with everything we learned. My heart broke for everything that Reed and Ella had to go through. With the return of Steve I was happy at first that Ella would have her father in her life, but I quickly began to distrust him and his motives, he fell into the Dinah and Brooke category for me and he never really got out of it.
I hated how Ella finally found a place she could call home and was ripped from it. She had Callum, the twins, Easton and Reed, and Steve came and took it all away. He wanted to control her, and sure, that's what parents do, but I hated how he went about doing it. He didn't take the time to get to know her or who she was before he made decisions for her that could change her life forever. He didn't care that his godson was being convicted of murder, or that it was tearing his daughter apart, he was selfish and I despised his character for it. But enough about him. The way Ella handled everything going on with Reed? It made me love her character even more. She has grown so much in this series and is so strong that I admire this character so much. She goes to bat for those she loves and the way she stood by the Royals and Reed is something that was admirable and showed how much she truly cared for each and every one of them. Something I never would have thought would have happened when they first met with so much animosity between them all.
This book had even more secrets and lies and I loved each and every second of it. We got all the sexiness and angst we've grown accustomed to with Reed and Ella, the banter and fun with Easton and Ella, the high school drama, the dark and twisty secrets, and everything in between. This series seriously has me hooked and I wasn't ready to say goodbye to Reed and Ella. I can only hope we get to see more of the family one day because the twins, Gideon, Easton, etc all in my opinion have stories to tell. This series quickly has jumped to one of my favorite series of all time and I can not recommend it enough. If you're looking to be sucked into a world of secrets and lies and angst, I highly recommend The Royals by Erin Watt!
WARNING! IF YOU HAVENT READ PAPER PRINCESS OR BROKEN PRINCE THERE WILL BE SPOILERS! If you HAVE read those two books, you should be free from spoilers.
Well, this has been an incredible and wild ride and I am so happy to have been a part of it! Every book has been full of twists and turns and Twisted Palace follows in that tradition.
As we discovered at the end of Broken Prince, Brooke has been murdered and Reed is the prime suspect. On top of that, Ella’s father Steve has come back from the dead and shown up on her doorstep. It’s now up to the Royal’s to figure out a way to clear Reed’s name while at the same time managing the gossip around town about them. Along the way they find some unexpected road blocks, and Ella and Reed seek help in unexpected places.
That’s really all I can say without spoilers. I do think fans of the series will devour this book and many will be happy with the series end. I liked that we still had unexpected twists and shocks throughout this final book, the last twenty percent was very thrilling and we receive lots of answers. Ella and Reed together were fantastic, very strong and resilient. They have such faith in each other and their journey from when they met to where they ended up is one full of growth and love.
I enjoyed this book, but it for me it lacked that “OMG” factor the first two inspired in me. It felt as if there was no clear path for a lot of the book, and then everything resolved quickly at the end. There were many points where I was very frustrated with the story. But despite that as I said I enjoyed the end and look forward to more from these two authors, I am beyond excited for a possible book about Easton. (And praying for a book about Wade). (And a book about the twins). YES I KNOW I AM GREEDY! BUT I WANT MORE ROYALS!
