I am glad that a preview of the book was offered. After reading it, I had to decide whether to purchase the complete book, or stop where I was. I didn't buy the book. I might have finished it if I could have found it at the library, but I can be a penny-pincher when it comes to buying a book.

I have now purchased the Audible audio version of this book, and and "reading" it slowly to savor it.
there is no character in literature as eccentric and intelligent as Pendergast, save for his own brother and, of course, the Holmes brothers. Unfortunately, Holmes is forever part of the Victorian era, but not so Pendergast. His keen mind, ruthless determination, and singular morality code make him a most intriguing and dangerous man. Even the FBI cannot fully contain Pendergast when he feels he, or someone he as allowed into his life, is threatened or in harm's way. Now his wife, long believed dead, has re-appeared and is taken from him again in a brutal and violent confrontation. God help those who crossed the path of the man who will not be stopped.

Not sure you want to try out this series, try this taste of the world of Pendergast.

I have not read one of Preston & Child's books in about 5 years, but couldn't resist reading the first 7 chapters for free on my Kindle HD. I love the overly descriptive passages and although some might consider these more horror than thriller, I don't. They are just in a category all their own.

Can't purchase the remainder of the book on Kindle. POOR concept. Get a reader started, then drop them. Not good.

First 7 chapters. You suck Amazon for not allowing a person to borrow this. And my local library doesn't have it yet on kindle. I guess I'll continue to wait, you tried to suck me in with 7 free chapters. Guess what I can still read other stuff and come back to this. The worst thing about the pendergast books is you can read them in a heartbeat so I got until the next one comes out to read this in two days anyway.

Good GOD is there any way that Aloysious can catch a break?! This is a real page turner. P-DAWG has got some complex problems, some tragic and you can "feel" this one building to an exciting face melt of revenge and intrigue. Characters are created slowly and with descriptive targets. The plot moves along at a pace that allows readers to immerse themselves into the story. One of the best Pendergast novels. Nicely done PC!

Anyone who has been following this series must be jonsing like I was for this story. At times this beloved character is completely unrealistic and yes, it's guilty of being a little too James Bond, but the research that goes into these books is so believeable and addicting that you can't help but love the characters and you can't put the book down.

There are times when a Pendergrast novel stretches credibility. This was stretches it too far. (Spoiler Alert) Nazi Islands in Brazil; evil twins all over the place; and one man dodging sniper bullets by the zillions. I had to finish it but wished I hand not wasted all the time.
