The ink sets immediately, no smearing. The type is crisp like a laser printer. My colors turn out great.
Since this is a matte finish card, there isn't the professional glossy look, but that's what I wanted so I'm fine with that.
It's true these cards are not as thick as the super-professional ones like my husband got from his work, but then again they also paid a great deal more for their cards. For the cost of these, the thickness is fine.
The edges are clean cut. Personally, I can only barely tell there's perforations.
I felt like I got more than my money's worth for these cards. If I wanted a more professional look (like thicker cards, gloss), I'd naturally have to be willing to pay more.
Update (9/05): The newest cards I got were significantly thicker than the older ones I had. They're comparable to other business cards I've been receiving.
I've noticed the background picture on my package is slightly different from the picture on Amazon (Maybe out dated) but it gets confusing. My cards say exactly as followed as to avoid mixing up reviews. Avery Ink Jet 8869 Print to the edge, clean edge Extra sturdy business cards. White Matte finish 160 per package 8 per sheet 20 sheet count.
Card weight/quality: These cards say extra sturdy, suggesting that they would be professional quality. They are not. They are not bad but I held up my printed business card next to my wifes professionally made corporate card and it was significantly more flexible. I would imagine that over time these cards being stored in a wallet or anywhere else will take a beating and shrivel up considerably faster than a true extra sturdy card should. In Avery's defense, I think they are trying to appeal to a more "generalized" market as a lot of users printers would struggle to feed the heavier weight card thus creating jamming issues and doing more harm than good. I did not have jamming problems but one sheet refused to be "fed" into my printer for a while until I played with it a bit.
Print to the edge: Holds true, I was able to print to the edge however I printed past the edge using the 8373 template as suggested by Avery.Read more ›
I thought I could deal with that until I tried printing, where I noticed the real problem. See, the Avery template for these business cards has the group of cards centered on the page. However, the actual paper with the business card cutouts has a few extra millimeters on one side than the other. This means that every time I tried printing, the cards were a little off-center (both horizontally and vertically). I adjusted the AI template to try to match the business card paper (the front side anyways; the back side would need the template to be moved in the opposite direction), but getting exact results is nearly impossible.
One final huge downside with these is the fact that, although there is clearly room on the paper for the cards to be spread out a little more, they are all right next to each other. That throws out your option to print with a bleed for colored backgrounds on your cards. Even if you get your template properly aligned, which is not an easy task, and try to print colored backgrounds without a bleed, there are always slight printer variation when it takes in a piece of paper from one piece to the next, so you will probably not be printing a completely colored background, and you will probably be ruining one or two other cards in the process.
The only reason this is worth the one star is because, in theory, I can still get three full bleed or ten white-background cards per sheet, however low quality they are.Read more ›
I use these cards in my finicky Epson Stylus Photo R2000 printer and in my HP 1320 laser printer (cheaper ink), just so that I can give people my address and phone number quickly and conveniently. If you really need to impress someone you might want to look at a specialized supplier of desktop publishing materials for thicker, coated cards. These Avery cards feed through my printers' regular paper paths with no trouble, and the margins and cards snap off amazingly-- if you fold decisively and from the side that says "...fold this side INWARD." (That's the side that DOESN'T say "STOP: FOLD OTHER SIDE" --you can't say Avery's not trying to give your cards a fair chance!)
(Note: I haven't needed to print both sides so haven't tested what happens the second time the sheet goes through the rollers!)
I tried the Avery template and was screaming with frustration in no time, so I made a Word 2003 table for the card grid, after setting up the page (side margins .75 inch (3/4"), top and bottom margins .5 inch (1/2"). I then could use fonts and pictures from my vast collections and get the layout just as I wanted it. You can even make sheets with different layouts, different text, different fonts, and different pictures on every card if you want.
Your table will be left-aligned, with five rows of two columns with the column width 3.5 inches. (This makes the width of the table 7 inches, which will reach the page margins -- and the fold margins of the card sheet.) The row height is 1.9" and "exactly" (Word 2003's choices are "at least" and "exactly).Read more ›
