I chose this book because I am a new motorcycle enthusiasts and wanted to read about other's experiences. It was interesting to me because a lot of the rides this couple has done are the same ones that my husband and I have done. I was surprised at how unprepared they were, but that things turned out OK for them ~ even having to buy a new bike along the way. We are totally the opposite type of rider who always have our bike checked out before our long ride and pack according to what will fit on the bike. They also traveled huge distances daily which we try to avoid. We are much more of the 200 miles a day is considered a VERY long ride. Just shows how what's right for one couple may not be right for another.

This is well written and fun book in spite of the author's starting point of dealing with the loss of his wife. The trip descriptions are well done with just enough background of the places they visit to make it interesting and personal without bogging down.
In spite of it's well done travel tales it is really a book that belongs in the "How Not To" book list. As a biker of more than forty years I cringed all the way through the book at the basic mistakes they made but got away with. This is the first bike trip book where someone had to buy a new bike halfway through a two week trip.
It was fun to read about roads and places I remember though mostly on four wheels for me.
It is not a long book but at the price is a very good read.

2 Years on the Run is a great story. Maddy takes you on his motorcycling adventures with his new wife across a good portion of the United States, as well as a trip to Branson and the famed Sturgis, albeit in the off-season. He even takes you with him on a trip to Alaska and Hawaii (though not on a 'motor'bike) where he discovers just how similar the scenery truly is between the two states. Humorously told from the author's point of view, you'll laugh at him because of both his sharp wit and cluelessness. Most of all, his style of writing not only tells a great and fun story, but he gets you right there on the road with him. It's like you are in the saddle bags, in a sidecar, or even just riding behind him.
I've been to many of the places he describes, and have even lived in a few myself, but you need not have lived or visited any of these places as he describes them well enough, giving tidbits of interesting history along the way, such as the real name of Ratos NM, or why the Sunbeam dam in Salmon Idaho was breached.
I've had a maybe a whole 10 minutes of driving time on a motorcycle, from a 50cc as a kid to a failed rebuild attempt at a Suzuki 400 to riding my friend's softtail and hoping not spill it, and he really makes me want to hop on and ride.
Definitely a page-turner. You won't want to put it down, and you'll want to go buy a big fat Harley or roadbike when you're done!

Mr. Maddy, a fellow Idahoan, made his story of riding with new wife enjoyable. He mentioned that they had met on an online dating site and then went on to tell about their differences. I thought "didn't they discuss alot of this when they were communicating?". He is blessed that his wife will ride with him on her own bike.

Two Years on the Run is a quick and occasionally humorous story of a newly married couple taking a cross-country motorcycle trip in order to build their own unique memories together. I enjoyed reliving the trials and tribulations of Luther as he discovers what is required to go the distance on a new motorcycle and in a new marriage.

I bought this book because I do a lot of motorcycle touring thoughout the US. It sounded like a great premise for a story but I was so annoyed by the author's snarky attitude and his obsession with eating junk food that it became a distraction. His wife sounded like a nice person that would be fun to know and travel with but I found myself hoping that she would ride off and leave his fat butt behind by the time I finished the story.
