Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
Other than that, I'm actually pretty happy with this thing. I will continue to use it, but I will positively secure those bolts. That's actually pretty easy to do (and I did it for the rest of our ride home). The knobs have holes in them, and I just ran some zip-ties through those holes and around the body to prevent the knobs from turning. I think clothes-hanger wire would work fine, too. If you buy (or own) this rack, I would STRONGLY recommend you do something similar.
I will also say that we were using the included straps, and despite all of this abuse, everything stayed firmly attached to the rack, and the rack itself appears undamaged.
It will act like a motor mount making your task much easier.
You may wonder how it mounts to both sizes ?
Well there is 2 metal shims bolted to the shank you remove for 1 1/4” and the first thing
you have to do for the smaller size.
I cannot speak to the 2” use but 1 1/4” is a loose fit and it will shake and sway in the wind
or while mounting bikes.
I suggest not using the red cinch strap included and use bungee cords because in the wind
you cannot trust this strap to hold.
This carrier is best suited to cruise type bikes but seems to be adiquate for 10 speeds.
My 10 speed is an exspensive composite so with all the mounts rattling around there
is no way I will use it for mine.
Heavy moutain bikes like I use are also a no go.
The red 9”zip tie down straps are simply not long enough and come up about 6 inches
short to be trusted even with bungee cords.
They need to have 3 inches min. through the teeth or quickly will break loose when
the mount starts rocking.
Our light trail bikes seem to do Ok though.
So far we have only used this for more local outings but if we decide to use it with
real road time I will have to shim it some how becase just the left and right sway is
1 1/2 inches to each side.
One last thing; there are bolts with hand use grips for folding and locking
the rack down next to the rack and next to the reciever so you can pull the arm
back and out of the way for trunk access.
updated-i received the replacement straps all good, awesome customer service
