Pretty funny movie to curl up and watch on a New Year Eve night. This is a Tyler Perry "Madea" movie. Therefore, expect silly comments, over-the-top characters, and hidden messages coupled with acts of love. Expect cussing, anger, and corny moments. This is a funny movie to watch with your older teenager who may have that I-Know-More-Than-You attitude. My partner laughed through out the movie and stated he could relate to some of the scenes (when the elderly people were discussing the back in the day punishments parents use to dish out). I wanted to ring in my new year laughing and this movie helped to create the mood. I was introduced to the hilarious Aunt Bam character and my favorite part was Miss Hattie dancing at the frat house party. I always figured if you seen one Tyler Perry movie you have seen them all. However, this film was a pleasant surprise. If you watch it with an older teenager, keep in mind weed, sex, and language are major points throughout the film. Just keep an open mind and remember this movie is not for everyone. I appreciate you for taking time out to read my review.

I wish Tyler Perry would leave out the nasty stuff like the old man playing with himself, we don't need to see junk like that, to have it implied is bad enough but when he went to moving the covers as if he really WAS doing that? It turned us off to the entire movie and it was removed from out home. Hubby is now against me bringing anymore of Tyler Perry's movies in. :(

I also thought madea bug happy family was the best madea movie but now I have to say this movie has more laughs and exceeded my expectations. I think because it has characters such as aunt bam, Hattie, madea and joe. I would recommend this movie to someone who has seen a madea film before so they can get hooked to the franchise. Madea is so funny and having the other characters with her bring out all the laughs.

if you're used to other tyler perry movies, you'd know that they're pretty deep.. this is the opposite. i can only think of one scene in this movie that's partial deep (dad and others packing clothes - trying not to give too much away)...people saying that this isn't like his other movies...it's bc it's NOT. This isn't meant to be a drama-ish movie. it's meant to be funny. and in that light, it is funny. I wouldn't call it a family movie though bc it has enough inappropriate obscenities to make it not one. the only thing is some of the acting didn't seem good enough...mostly when it came to the frat house cast. most were still funny tho.

Tyler Perry at His Best

I got roped into the world of Tyler Perry with Diary of a Mad Black Woman, and I've made a point of watching pretty much everything he makes ever since. While some of his movies have gotten less-than-stellar ratings for me, this is not one of them. What dawned on me while watching this one is what Tyler Perry does particularly well with the Madea movies is uses characters who are not entirely (or even far from) morally upstanding to make valid moral points. In other words, a heathen like me can still enjoy the film while also appreciating the message being conveyed. The bleeding heart liberal in me also appreciated the multicultural frat and the interracial friendship among the younger female characters. Multiculturalism is a two-way street, and Perry is helping pave the way with this one.

Scary Laughs with Mabel and the Crew

Very funny and what you'd expect from Mabel and her crew. My only complaint was some of the scenes lasted too long. For example, the scene when Madea and everyone came to Brian's house and talked in the living room lasted almost an hour it seemed. It was obvious it was just a way to showcase the gang's one-liners and funny insults to each other but many scenes are like this in the film, a lot of talking. Still, it's funny but not much action considering this was a horror comedy.

I'm not a big fan of Perry's dramas but Madea always comes out on top. Joe once again is the scene stealer. He's left out of most of the action scenes but funny as heck just sitting on the couch.

One thing that confused me was Brian. I don't remember him being this wimpy in other films. He isn't the type to let someone run over him (seeing how he stands up to Joe with no problems). That aspect of the film was unbelievable. Brian wouldn't have let his daughter disrespect him like she did. Sure, this film is a comedy overall but if you're gonna put in a dramatic subplot, it can be a little more realistic to the characters.
