The first piece of known typewriter art was a "drawing" of a butterfly by Flora F. F. Stacey in 1898; since then, artists, designers, poets, and writers have used this rigorous medium to produce an astounding range of creative work.

This is a truly beautiful book and a wonderful historical overview plus a thoughtful selection of work now much unavailable. The book itself is a pleasure in its design & on par with the beautiful Mary Ellen Solt classic anthology of concrete poetry published in the 1970's. A great delight! A concrete poem!

This is an exceptional anthology of typewriter art from the very beginning of the machine to the present day. The book includes historical essays and several interviews with typewriter artists, but, if you are like me, you will get distracted while reading them by page after page after page of fascinating typewriter art. The variety of the art is amazing. You will come across many pages and think, "How did someone get a typewriter to do that?" Tullett has done a wonderful job with this lovely book. Recommended.
