I bought this game when it first popped up on Steam, not realizing there had been a HotD reboot some time in the past several years... So I was definitely pleasantly surprised when I launched this game and was treated to a psychadelic grindhouse goregushing extravaganza starring an enraged erotic dancer, a blaxploitation baddie, the balloon-headed blonde, and the mysterious G. The last one listed is about the only one I recognized, and his awkward mannerisms and strange speech have transformed from the terrible-yet-completely-serious acting of the original HotD games into a very well-played joke throughout the course of the newest addition to the series.

The gameplay is what you'd expect from a typing game: Zombies pop up on the screen with words, you type the words, the zombies get destroyed. Levels are actually fairly lengthy for a game of this genre, so if carpal tunnel is a concern, you might wanna stay away. You can choose between a few different difficulty levels, and as you complete each level, you can unlock the ultimate difficulty setting for that mission. I've honestly only played on the hardest difficulty (not the unlockable one), and I've got to admit it's very challenging at times. For perspective's sake, I average 105+ WPM on typing tests. So you can imagine my frustration when I'm playing a game that I *should* be good at (to reiterate, it's not your generic reaction-time-testing FPS) and still take damage/lose my combo.

Along the way, you'll unlock things from concept art to comic pages to groovy songs that you can listen to when you're not slaying zombies.

The story is fairly generic, but the setting for the game is great. As you play, you'll fight monsters on trains, kill creepy clowns at a carnival, and shoot zombies in labs.

Ok, so typing to zombies doesn't *sound* all that interesting, but it is. Strangely gratifying. Do know that this game has more f-bombs than grandma after a few glasses of egg-nog, so *NOT* kid friendly. It's cheesier than any grind-flick than you could come up with, but really, you get to play as a stripper shooting a zombie stripper *while typing*. Your argument is invalid.

If you're claiming that you're "misled" because of this game, you're an idiot. It's a typing/zombie shooter. It even says "TYPING of the Dead" in the title. The game itself is incredibly fun, the dialogue and the words you have to type are plain hysterical. It's a great party game for everyone to take turns on.

Totally fun.
You must have a high tolerance for profanity.
You *must* play through all the way to the end for the last sequence.
You will enjoy having done so.

I was OBSESSED with the Typing of the Dead game back in '99 and practically fell out of my chair when I discovered they released this updated version! For fans of the old game, expect very similar challenges here, lots of soft-core gore and snarky words to type. I can type anywhere from 80-100 WPM and still find myself challenged by this game, but it's in a fun way. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for novices just beginning to improve their typing score (there are less intense games for that) but pretty much any skill level should have a great time playing, and there are various levels of difficulty to choose from.

OVERALL: Forget Mavis Beacon. The Typing of the Dead is the greatest typing game ever created. Learning to improve your typing speed doesn't have to be boring. Thanks to generous blood, zombies, the occasional snarky sentence to type, and fun storyline, there's no better game to prepare you for the real world where a brisk typing speed isn't optional anymore.

Bought this for someone else in the house to help with their typing skills. They haven't gotten into it. I, on the other hand, love it LOL. Fun game. Decent story and interactions. Good boss fights. Enough different versions of the play throughout one game to keep it interesting and keep you on your toes. Different versions of play available too (ie switch from typing to standard shooter with mouse if you want to do something different).

Sometimes switching from mob to mob gets a little weird. Especially if you need to do it quickly. You basically just start typing that mobs word to target it, But after you start one if another threat pops up that should be the priority target it is basically quickest to finish the one you started first. Often means I get pelted with a bottle or something just for not switching fast enough.

Fun game, decent graphics, runs smoothly, has some replay value for me, well worth the low price you pay for it. And I play it more than I had expected when I just looked at it as a typing aid.

The original typing of the dead was a blast. This is even better with all the different modes and better graphics. Easy to play, zombies pop out with words or letters above their heads, type the word and boom, dead zombie. I've actually improved my typing speed because of this game. Highly recommended!

Picked this up for $5 on sale. I didn't even know that it came with a mouse-controlled version of House of the Dead Overkill too. The typing mode is a little more fun, and plays very well. The game is super cheesy and hilarious if you are into grindhouse style B movies. Would absolutely recommend.
