On my first weekend camping in a primitive campsite, I just happened to be lucky enough to set the footprint down in feces :-/. I thought, "Well, I might as well try to wash it and see what happens. If it disintegrates, I'll just buy the real footprint." However, after the wash and the dry cycles, the material came out perfectly and feels softer than cotton.
For durability, the site had lots of sticks, roots, rocks, acorns... You name it. The material doesn't show a bit of tear or damage. I'm very impressed.
Overall, this material is very strong and very light. No matter what you're using it for, you will be impressed!
EDIT JUNE 2013: I've used it a couple times while camping now, and the thing i don't like is that it seems to hold a lot of dirt and because of that it's hard to clean. i still use it and plan to in the near future, but i wouldn't buy it again.
