This book gives us a unique look into the sometimes painful transition period of the historic 106th Cavalry Group preparing for war. In this very well researched book, Gary Palmer does a good job of mixing the historical events with personal experiences of the men. A must read if you are interested in WWII

Great history, stories and photos...

What a great book! Combining his personal knowledge of the 106th Calvary Unit with his extensive research, and then tied together with some touching stories and great photos, Gary Palmer has created a masterpiece for anyone wanting to learn more about WWII. Being a Vietnam Veteran himself, the author is able to bring to life what combat really was like. HIstorically accurate, it provides facts and locations other books on the topic aren't aware of. The learning you'll experience is fast paced and enjoyable. The stories are a combination of many emotions, a few sad but most are not only interesting but often times are amusing. You'll find yourself chuckling as you read of some of the escapades of these brave men.

I highly recommend this book. It is very well written, and event at 510 pages times goes by too fast as you're reading these fascinating stories. The author really knows how to bring WWII to life and you'll feel like you're part of history as you get absorbed by this excellent book.

modern cavalry

Excellent,outstanding and perfect. This outstanding book does more then talk about the birth of the modern cavalry and the death of the horse cavalry it explains the birth of our modern army and how the cavalry played its part.

There are a few great books on this subject but Gary Palmer's lifts you to another level. A must read either in hard book or kindle.
