Professor Terry does a very good job of explaining how lobbies and special interest groups have captured the foreign policy of this country. She is especially good at delineating the tactics of the Zionist lobby. In effect, for years our foreign policy in the Middle East has been dictated in Tel Aviv. Nothing new perhaps, but she describes in detail how it is done.
My only quarrel with her book is that she spends a lot of time describing lobbying over the Arab/Israeli problems during the Ford and Carter administrations. Interesting, but a bit dated. I think it would have been more to the point to describe the lobbying machinations that got us into the Iraq war. In other words, tell us more about what is going on right now. Does the Zionist lobby want war with Syria and Iran? It would be enlightening to know. Because if it does, then we'll have war.
A good update (to March, 2005) is Mearsherimer and Walt's "The Israel Lobby," available online from the London Review of Books for 23 March 2006. It corroborates in detail Terry's thesis of just how our foreign policy in the Middle East is dictated by another country, Israel.
