It's hard to imagine that the author can cover six different Classes of US light Cruisers into 49 pages, but that is exactly what has been done. An excellent blend of the history of US light cruisers, development of each class and what makes one different from the other.

The B&W photos help show the gun positions, the lines of each class and there are two pages of color plates showing the camoflague schemes used during the war. Plenty of data and statistics, line drawings that show the planes, different weapons used (gun mounts from 20mm all the way up to 8" cannon).

A really great book for modelers and those who want to get an introduction of US cruisers that were built and used to great effect in WW2. It's a very affordable way to increase your knowledge of naval weapontry and history, I highly recommend it.

During World War II, U.S. Navy light cruisers were jacks-of-all trades but were also often forced to take on the role of heavy cruisers due to the warship losses incurred at Pearl Harbor. Al Adcock looks at the six classes of light cruisers that saw action in this nicely done Squadron/Signal publication from 1999.

After an introductory chapter on the development of light cuisers in the USN, Adcock examines the ships found in each of the six classes: Omaha, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Cleveland, St. Louis and Worcester. These ships - bearing such illustrious names as Raleigh, Marblehead, Nashville, Birmingham, Juneau and Oklahoma City - compiled a great combat record, seeing extensive combat not only in WWII. Some also took part in the Korean fighting and even the Vietnam War!

'Warships Number 12' fills its 50 pages with concise and entertaining information, dozens of b&w photographs including many detail shots and Don Greer color artwork. Greer's back cover depiction of USS Juneau in action is a great piece of artwork!

Naval buffs will enjoy U.S. LIGHT CRUISERS IN ACTION. It's great value for the price! Recommended.

As a confirmed WWII ships fan, I've bought several Squadron publications. They are great for the modeler and helpful for the amateur historian, with this volumn being no exception. I use them primarily for the paint schemes for individual ships. This book provided me just what I needed to know, and included short histories of all the USN light cruisers serving in WWII (some extending back to WWI), and foward to their ultimate disposition.
The book itself was listed as used, but I would not have know it. It arrived right on time and in perfect condition at a good price. Since this book seems to be out of print, or at least not available on the Squadron web site, I was very happy to get it.
