the only thing is they have a very strong sulphur smell when they burn, so i wouldn't use them indoors
These matches only burn the phosphorus, meaning the wooden stick will not catch flame. Also, don't expect a slow, steady flame as with regular kitchen matches. If you are expecting these matches to light candles or a cigar, this might not be the product for you. So why five stars? It does what it says it will do. I have not experienced any failures so far with these matches. The burn time is at least ten seconds with every match, and yes, I can dunk one in water after I strike it and it flares back up after I pull it out. Again, it may not be what you need indoors, but if you're building a guaranteed fire kit for outdoors (campfires) you will be satisfied with the addition of these matches.
PROS: 1) they actually burn underwater, as advertised.
2) they stay lit even in very strong wind.
CONS: 1) the burn time is NOT 15 seconds. More like 10.
2) after the coated part burns up, the rest of the wooden match stick doesn't catch fire even when held upside-down.
3) the very first time I tried to light one, it broke where the wooden part meets the coated part. (But maybe that's just my luck)
In conclusion, they are good quality matches ideal for wet and windy conditions.
Both matches took 2-3 strikes to get them to light. When they did flare up, they burned quickly with a LOT of white smoke and odor, similar to fireworks. I wouldn't use these in an enclosed space, EVER. Both burned down in about 5 seconds and completely went out before getting to the bare wood portion of the match.
I suppose you could get a fire going with them in an emergency, but you'd have to be fast, and most likely have a few of these available. I'll be keeping these in my kit, but with some quick tinder bundles in a separate watertight container. I'd buy them again for sure, but I can see their limitations.
