Leonard Stringfield was born in 1920. He was director of CRIFO (Civilian Research, Interplanetary Flying Objects) - one of the world's largest research groups during the mid-5Os, and publisher of its newsletter, ORBIT (1953-1957). He also worked in cooperation with the United States Air Force (1953-1957), investigating and reporting UFO activity, having been assigned a special code number for reporting to the Air Defense Command in Columbus, Ohio. For over 30 years, Stringfield served in several of the major UFO organizations in a public relations capacity. From 1957 to 1970, he was public relations adviser with the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP). Later on, he was Director of Public Relations and a board member of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). He was also a regional investigator for the Center for UFO Studies, directed by Dr. J. Allen Hynek. Stringfield was an executive with DuBois Chemicals, an international manufacturer. Stringfield retired in 1981 as Director of Public Relations and Marketing Services for DuBois Chemicals, a division of Chemed Corp., after 31 years service with the company. From 1967-1968 he served as Early Warning Coordinator for the University of Colarado UFO Project, screening UFO reports for possible scientific study. Stringfield was also an advisor to Sir Eric Gairy, former Prime Minister of Grenada, 1977-78, during his efforts to establish a UFO research agency within the framework of the United Nations. Stringfield passed away in 1994, leaving a string of fascinating publications behind, the last of which is "UFO Crash Retrievals: Status Report VII: Search for Proof in a Hall of Mirrors." This is the finale in Stringfield's influential 7-part "UFO Crash Retrieval Status Report" series, in which he summarizes the groundbreaking theories that made him famous. In looking at various UFO crashes throughout the world, Stringfield, the first researcher to exclusively focus on UFO crashes, shares many intriguing, eye-opening details about a number of major UFO cases. This extremely rare volume has been lovingly reproduced exactly as it was first published 35 years ago. The material inside, which was shocking to many observers in those days, is finally gaining acceptance. Today, Stringfield's sober, objective research on crashes like Roswell and Kecksburg has become increasingly relevant.

40 years after his first publication, the CRIFO Newsletter, Len Stringfield self-published his final UFO Crash Retrievals Status Report. Not many cases are covered and, as in Status Report 6, he quotes from the research findings of others. Stan Gordon has a lot to say about the Kecksburg incident of 1965 and there are eyewitness sketches included. In addition, there is a statement by Kevin Randle on Roswell, concerning witness testimony, such as how the testimony of Gerald Anderson collapsed when it was discovered that he had lied about one aspect of his story and then created a forged document as proof for his claims.

Stringfield expresses his doubt of the MJ12 papers. He includes in Status Report 7 the text of a leaked document, WSPG UFO Incidents of 1947: A Preliminary Report, together with a copy of Nathan Twining's covering letter, "FOR THE COMMANDING GENERALS." According to this report, the White Sands Proving Ground Incidents were investigated by engineer staff of T-2 and Aircraft Laboratory, Engineering Division T-3, personnel from Jet Propulsion Laboratory, CIT and the Army Air Forces Scientific Advisory Group, headed by Dr. Theodore von Karman, plus personnel from Research and Development. "Upon examination of the interior of the craft, a compartment exhibiting a possible atomic engine was discovered. At least, this is the opinion of Dr. Oppenheimer and Dr. von Karmen. ... A possible theory was devised by Dr. August Steinhoff (a Paperclip scientist), and Dr. Werner von Braun and Dr. Theodore von Karman: as the craft moves through the atmosphere, it somehow draws the hydrogen from the atmosphere and by an induction process, generates an atomic fusion reaction." Is the report genuine? In his letter to William Steinman, in the book UFO Crash at Aztec, Dr. Robert Sarbacher states that "John von Neuman was definitely involved. Dr. Vannevar Bush was definitely involved, and I think Dr. Robert Oppenheimer also." So, the document is another to indicate the involvement of J. Robert Oppenheimer in the subject of recovered UFOs. At the end of his report Stringfield expresses one regret: that he didn't get the opportunity to present a set of questions to Dr. Sarbacher himself.

Elsewhere, Stringfield discusses some reported international retrievals, media censorship and reflects on his role in UFO research.
