Tiny, accurate, under $40. Four years ahead of its time ...

This meter should not be possible. It is smaller and more accurate and way less expensive than every other meter I have purchased. My typical every day pocket meter is the Amprobe PM55A Pocket Multimeter. My tool bag meter is the Fluke T5-600 and my "Let me doublecheck this with my best meter" is the Klein Tools CL2300 600A TRMS AC/DC Clamp Meter. These are all good meters but this tiny package combines the ability to measure capacitance, continuity/ohms, amp clamp readings to the third decimal point , voltage readings and noncontact voltage detection with a backlit screen. All of this and something that fits in my pocket invaluable!

I bought this meter mainly for the DC current capability. I already have an AC clip-on current meter that works fine.

The meter appears well made and feels good and you are unlikely to accidentally drop it with it's non-slip coating on the sides.

My first application was to measure the DC current going to the HID ballast I just installed on my motorcycle. It worked fine for that.

You need to first select the current scale (20A in my case), press on the blue button to select DC (the meter defaults to AC), press the black Zero button to null the reading (more on that later), clip the meter over the wire through which flows the current you want to measure and read the display.

When the DC current scale is selected after powering the device (and before pressing the Zero button), the display indicates about 400mA. After pressing the Zero button, the display indicates zero. However, simply moving the meter around will cause the "zero" to change, depending on the orientation of the meter with respect to the earth's magnetic field. The maximum deviation I have observed is about 40mA.

So my recommendation is to zero the meter while it is in the position where you will make the measurement, or as close to it as possible, so that the "zero" does not change when you clip the meter around the wire.

As long as you do not move the meter, the "zero" seems stable, so it is actually possible to measure a DC current of a few mA, which is quite remarkable for a DC clip on meter that costs so little.

The other scales do not need the "zero" button and a cursory review indicates the meter is working as advertised.

The display is clear and well contrasted. The meter operates from two AAA batteries and the battery compartment cover is held with a screw, so you are unlikely to lose it, a good thing.

The meter ships with a transport bag that also contains the test leads, which are adequate for general electrical wiring usage, but probably a little too big for small electronic circuits.

The sensitivity to outside magnetic field seems to be the main difference with the professional grade meters that cost 5 to 10 times as much. For the home, I find that a perfectly acceptable trade-off.

Small meter packing quite a punch at an amazing low price. Tremendous engineering from a China company.
Bought this when my clamp AC current meter died. Chose this because it was cheap and also measured DC current.
I saw it had good reviews, but what a surprise when it turned up - this is a serious measuring device that replaces/backs-up 4 other test tools because of its features and specifications. The tip detects AC voltage (NCV) and makes a noise, which I love for working on AC circuits. Comes with probes that are insulated so only about 1/8" metal is exposed. I did not have probes like this and they are useful for circuits as I do not have to worry about accidental shorting. Meant to come with 2 AAA batteries but they were missing. Manual is a bit mis-worded as are many from China, but all the essential information I need is there, including how auto-ranging/accuracy behaves in different settings and situations..

This is a fine meter. I purchased this over a year ago to troubleshoot a battery drain problem on my daughter's car. The fact that it can read amperage without opening the circuit, makes troubleshooting very easy. This is a well designed feature packed meter. Even the test leads are nice because they come with the end shields that allow you to contact the test points without shorting out adjacent wires. Of course these plastic shields can be removed to allow the entire probe tips to be exposed for inserting into AC outlets, etc.. It has very intuitive controls and is very compact, so it is easy to store. I use this meter for working on complicated things like electronic design to something as simple as testing smoke detector batteries. It also comes with a nice carrying pouch. I do wish it came with an English user manual.

surprised at how accurate it is in DC clamped milliamps

I got this because I have an intermittent parasitic draw on 2005 Pacifica. I couldn't use my non-clamp meter to check the problem because, when I disconnected the negative battery cable, the parasitic draw would go away and connecting the meter leads would reveal nothing wrong. So I got this clamp meter so I could just clamp around the negative battery cable with engine either running or stopped. As with all other clamp meters, you have to rotate the clamp meter to the position it's going to be clamped at, hit zero button and clamp it on at that same orientation. This is to cancel out the Hall Effect on the meter due to the earth's magnetic field. However, when laying the meter down and rotating it, even in low 2 amp setting, I saw very little of the Hall Effect on this meter.
There are a couple of things they could improve on with this meter. It seems to go into sleep mode pretty quick. Seems like about 5 minutes when it should be about 15, in my opinion. I would clamp it around the negative cable and wait for the computer and systems in the Pacifica to go to sleep but sometimes the meter would go to sleep first. When I would wake the meter back up by pressing any button, it would lose the zero I'd put in and also switch to A/C. I'd have to select DC again,orient the meter again, zero it and clamp it on again. I haven't tested the accuracy of the amps using the clamp yet but it seems pretty close. For about 34 dollars, I think this is an amazing meter and one of my best purchases.
