This thing worked great at first and then after about a week it all of a sudden started smelling like burnt plastic and now it won't turn on. I guess it's just a defect but I'm really sad now.

Edit: Lugulake sent me a replacement and this one works great so far. Great customer service, and if this charger doesn't break then it's a great charger too.

The Qi charger works great, although the LEDs are too bright to be used on my nightstand (and at least for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, sliding the phone over to hide the LEDs disengages the Qi charger).

My complaint is that the internal 6000mAh battery never charged and provided no power when disconnected, either wirelessly through the Qi charger, or through the USB-A charging port.

I returned this as defective and am debating if I want to try another one to see if this was a one-off problem.

This comes with the all time most poorly translated documentation ever. The English instructions are gibberish--absolute nonsense. Good luck trying to understand one sentence. Fortunately, it's fairly easy to figure out the product.

Unfortunately, the USB port provides standard, (s)low power output (500mA I think?). However, wireless charging of my Nexus 5 on this is very fast. Charging speed doesn't seem to change whether or not the charger is plugged into the wall. Charger provides continuous power when plugged in, so your devices stays fully charged as long as it's on the charger.

You can simply & properly position a phone with a case on this charger, unlike the new Nexus charger that came out with the Nexus 5. The Nexus charger is super finicky and difficult to locate the proper placement if you have a phone case more than about 1mm thick. This charger is large enough that proper position is easy to eyeball each time. LED & audible indicators don't always mean you have ideal placement, so the larger base can provide an additional visual clue.

So it's not ideal, but portable & fast as a wireless charger. Don't count on its USB output for speedy charging of anything, but that's probably not why someone would pay so much for this unit.

**Update 2/28/2014. I've been having problems where my phone would randomly stop charging on this pad, and the problem was progressively getting worse. At first it seemed that placement on the pad was becoming more & more finicky. Then I discovered that the problem went away when using the pad on battery (i.e. no charger plugged into this unit). I fiddled some more, tried different chargers (AC power sources) and discovered that my USB cable feeding power to the charging pad was the cause of the problem.

3 out of 5 for packaging and lack of auto off after fully charging phone. Otherwise good deal:

Having no other Qi inductive chargers, I was in the market for my first. The added feature of being a power bank was a welcome bonus.

As a wired inductive charger it works great. Place my Nexus 5 with the [METALLIZED BUTTONS] Spigen Google Nexus 5 Case Protective [Neo Hybrid] [Metal Slate] Slim Dual Layer Bumper Protection Cover for Nexus 5 - Metal Slate (SGP10562) on there and the charger beeps and phone alerts audibly that it's charging. There is a decent play in where you place the device and still have it charge, so it isn't finicky in that regard. The device powers off immediately upon unplugging from source.

On battery, it will continue to charge your phone until the battery of the bank is gone. So for throwing it on there at night in battery mode, expect your phone to only get one full charge out of it. If you watch the device closely you can get 2 full battery charges out of it, but you must remove your phone to not deplete the charger. Doing that math you get 2x 2300 mAh charges from 1 6000. YMMV. Not bad for the convenience of not needing a plug.

Strangely, the instructions say that when on battery the inductive charger will power off in about 50 seconds. I found this closer to be 2 minutes, but if you're wondering how to turn it off, you don't, it powers itself off when it's not charging a phone. I thought this auto off feature would save the battery from trickle charging the phone overnight, but apparently there is no gap long enough in charging to allow the bank to shut off.

Now with many months of repetitive use, charge/recharge cycles, I like it even more than when I first got it. I use it for a portable USB charger (not just for my phone) too. It slips into my suitcase with a great form factor for travel, and has traveled with me around the world a couple of times. Never a single problem with TSA or other security theater. One unexpected result: this will charge the S4 very quickly under optimum conditions (S4 dead, powered off, laying on charger). Doing so it will dump its entire contents into the phone, and both will get warm by the time it's done. Be sure to start charging the charger as soon as practical, because there is nothing left. (At other times charging the phone there will be enough battery power to "re-charge" the phone several times.) Nothing's wrong here; this is just physics and conservation of energy. But when you put the thing in your shirt pocket it will remind you with the extra heat.
