The easel is not meant for heavy use or abuse. It is a lightweight, adjustable easel for plein air painting that can also work on a table top. If it’s tippy, you can add weights to the feet. Seems like it will do the trick just fine for a reasonable price. What you lose on sturdiness you gain on portability, weight, and price. It’s a decent little easel.
FWIW. It didn’t have instructions but the photos on the box are self explanatory,
Big thanks to customer service!!
One it's up it's great!
With posters that I am changing out, I set the top high and just lean the board. It works, and I can change it as I talk.
With the whiteboard, I use the top claim. The bottom of the whiteboard fits in the bottom tray just right without extending beyond the easel. The clap holds the top. This eliminates any wiggling of the whiteboard on the easel. Weight wise the easel handles it. Some care is needed when writing or drawing on it so the easel with whiteboard is not pushed out of balance, but this easel is lightweight and portable allowing us to display posters and use a whiteboard for meetings.
The carrying bag is handy as we take maybe too much stuff to meetings and not having loose pieces is a godsend.
Outside of those issues, it was utterly useless for my purposes. I wanted it to hold a whiteboard, but our whiteboard is too heavy apparently because the bottom tray would not stay up at the height I set (and the twist screws that hold the bar up only get so tight, so there was no way to make it work. And because that part didn't function correctly, none of it did. The spring-loaded holder at the top can't hold it in place, the legs are pulled inward at an awkward unstable position because the bottom bar holds them together and if it slides down then the legs are no longer properly positioned. If you're planning on using it for a white board, make sure it is a light white board.
But its cheap. Like seriously cheaply made. Lightweight=crappy materials. Case=cheap. NOT sturdy.
The plate only holds 3/4" canvas and is thin metal. It will likely bend within a few uses if it doesnt cut you first. The extending clips are good and tight! But the brackets that holds the tray is tightened with screws and they slide down. I just put a 16x20 on it and it slid down. Nope. Can't do. I dont want to use power tools to get it tight enough or bend the legs on accident.
I'll save it as a back-up since I dont feel like returning it but I'm overall I'm pretty sad. Its probably fine as a display easel. Indoors with no wind. For painting? Nah. Pass.
