This book offers a good high level overview / workflows for a typical payment system in the US. The limited scope of this book forces the reader to ignore the more fundamental ideas regarding the payments landscape (e.g., payments, by nature, are for global economies). In addition to the limited scope of this book, which was expected based on the title, I also expect a bit more from a book that calls itself a handbook.
This book is a great 30 minute read if you are consultant trying to learn a few buzzwords before walking into a client meeting. If you need to know more than that... consider looking for a different book.
