Purchase options and add-ons
After four years abroad, Williams returned to the United States and found his head twirling with thoughts on race, class, gender, finance, freedom, guns, cooking shows, dog shows, superheroes, not-so-super politicians—everything that makes up our country. US(a.) is a collection of poems that embodies the spirit of a culture that questions sentiments and realities, embracing a cross-section of pop culture, hip-hop, and the greater world politic of the moment. Williams explores what social media may only hint at—times and realities have changed; there is a connect and a disconnect. We are wirelessly connected to a past and path to which we are chained. Saul Williams stops and frisks the moment, makes it empty its pockets, and chronicles what’s inside. Here is an extraordinary book that will find its place in the hands and minds of a new generation.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2016As a person who comes from the visual arts, I found his play on visuals with the way he "drew" his poems, challenged the typical layout of stanzas and how things are written to convey a visual confusion, appropriately reflecting the overwhelming visual chaos of our times. Saul Williams is a brilliant artist and poet because he culls his references from all that is around us. I have been on the hunt for a longtime for a master poet, one who can mirror our times and Saul Williams is truly it. His rhyme and melody are jazz/rap/and religious hymns all at once. His choice of words and reason are profound. They are all reflective of his soulful journey, open mind and (in)sight. This book of poetry is one of the best I have read so far. I cannot recommend a book more.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2016Very different approch to poetry can always be found when reading Saul Williams. Inside this book he takes the most biographical and almost novella like stance when delving into his poetic snapshots of American life mixed with anticdotal portrayals of well known musicians and artists lives. I've never read a book of poetry that felt more like a conversational retelling of history. Excellent read for those well versed in Saul's other works or familiar with his voice. Due to the multitude of stories happening through out I would not recommend to the casual reader.
Poetically speaking: Deep in the veins of US is the story of America and the history of humanity.
