Tips for choosing the right cord:

Choose the right length: General Purpose cords come in various sizes and gauges so choose the right length for your project
Amps/Watts: Always choose a cord that is rated greater than or equal to the amps and watts of your tool. Choosing an extension cord that is lower can cause the cord to overheat or your tool to burn out the motor. You can normally find the wattage of your device printed on a label or in the owners manual.
Gauge: the lower the gauge number is (16 is the smallest and 10 is the biggest), the greater the amperage and wattage. Voltage drops over a long distance so to offset this choose a bigger gauge cord.

Quality Extension Cord

I use this for a leaf blower and also a power washer. I learned the hard way years ago, do not use the 16 gauge extension cords for products like leaf blowers or power washers as they tend to burn up the motors sooner than normal. Very low power drop and very sturdy...love it.

This cable is a beast. I used it for almost two months to charge my electric car (before moving into my own home with a garage) and it never got warm and experienced surprisingly little voltage drop.

Any time I used this I plugged it into my P3 P4460 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor to keep track of how much I used it and how much current it was drawing and I was impressed. On a 120V circuit, the car draws a maximum of 12 amps, which comes out to 1,440 watts. The P3 P4460 typically showed about 118V and 11.6-11.7 amps, so over 50 feet this extension cord really did well.

In very low temperatures, below maybe 20 degrees, the cord did get pretty stiff, but never so stiff that it cracked, broke, or was difficult to coil up or un-coil. The connectors on each end also seem very well made and feel very sturdy.

After using this the way I did, charging for sometimes 10-15 hours on end, with so little current drop and lasting the way it did, I would certainly buy this again if I needed to.

I needed 150 feet of extension cord for my Black & Decker edger. I had a 100 foot and a 25 foot. Combined, I was still short. I knew I was stretching things going 150 feet, so I went with this heavy gauge cord for my add-on. So far, after about 8 or 10 uses, it has been fine. No sign of overheating anywhere along the cord or along the original 100 foot cord. Note. This cord is HEAVY. Not just heavy duty, but also heavy. Rolling it up after edging my corner lot driveway, sidewalk, and curb, I really appreciate how heavy it is. However, my goal was to edge the whole lot and not have overheating. That is achieved with this 50 footer added to my standard gauge 100 foot cord. As to the weight, I just need to get in better shape! I have no hesitation about recommending this extension cord for any heavy duty application.

Thick, high quality cable - I can believe it really is 12 gauge, compared to some other versions that say 12 gauge, but are really 14 or smaller to skimp on cost (copper is expensive). The fact that it is Made in the USA is great.

If you need to run high-current tools on an extension cord, this is your answer. My previous cord (admittedly, it was 14 gauge) would get warm due to the higher resistance combined with high load, whenever I used tools like a circular saw, or especially if I ever plugged in a space heater. This cord never gets warm; the 15A breaker will trip before the cord becomes the bottleneck in the electrical path.

Quality and Made in the USA

Wake up folks -- those of you who like me usually buy their extension cords at the big box stores or department stores -- that ain't the place to buy a quality extension cord. This extension cord is of absolute quality. My last cord I bought at the local big box hardware - paid just as much and it is made in China. After a little over a year, the outside cord wrapping is wearing away and you can actually see the wires underneath. I would say this extension cord -- Made in the USA -- will last longer than I will. I can put any tool or load on it and has no problems. When I plug the chinese cord into my 3.5HP Electric chainsaw or air compressor, the motor just hummmmms and won't spin up.

Bought this cord for the chainsaw and air compressor. I can run both of them at the same time on this cord -- it carries that many amps.

US Wire Heavy Duty cord is just what it advertises to be -- a top quality, made in America extension cord that will give you years and years of service. You cannot beat the price for this quality of extension cord. I actually found something made like things back in the days when manufacturers actually cared what they produced. Buy this -- you will not be disappointed.

I purchased two of these extension chords, and the quality of the chord was a bit inconsistent. The first extension chord worked well, and it met all expectations. The second chord appeared to be dry and old, and it is a little less malleable than the first. Ultimately both chords worked well, but I was a little disappointed in the inconsistent quality and/or old stock.

I am very happy with my purchase.
The only drawback is not with the product but with my lawn mower chord holder (I can't think of the exact wording, but it's the thing that keeps your cord from getting unplugged but holding the cord), The cord holder is too small so I just make a knot on the handle.
Good deal, don't hesitate to buy.

Nice extension chord

This cable is very good quality and seems to very durable. Was purchased to go along with a generator and it seems to fit that purpose well. It will be extremely stiff when you first receive it, however leave it out in the sun for a short amount of time and it will soften up and allow for it to be rolled however you wish. It seems to be true to the advertised length and the gauge is big enough to run appliances and things of that nature for a short duration (it is not appropriate to install an extension chord for permanent use). I would buy this cable again if needed as it is a very durable, strong and well made cable that should last for quite some time.
