My daughter had been wanting Operation for a while, but I wasn't sure she'd care much for it, and none of her friends or cousins had the game for her to give it a shot. She's also a huge NBC fan, since she was a little over a year old, so I knew this would be a cool present for her if only for the fact that it's NBC-based. Sure enough, she loves it, and has played it a few times through the day, in-between playing with everything else she got. I'm surprised at how fun this game is too, since I've honestly never played Operation in its regular form- just the giant versions at family arcades and the like. In the chance that you were on the fence about buying this one, it's worth buying for anyone looking for a new take on the classic game, or just any NBC fan you know.

Getting the game set up is simple. First things first though- you're gonna need two AA batteries and a Phillips/cross head screwdriver to put them into the back of the game. 'kinda lame that they weren't included, but most people have two AAs laying around, so it's not too big of a deal. The batteries are needed for the game to recognize when the tweezers or Funatomy parts touch the sizes of the area they're in, and for Oogie to talk and for his eyes to light up. After that's taken care of, you just need to put the Funatomy parts (bugs, snakes, dice, etc.) where they go. Next, you separate the game cards into two decks: Doctor cards and Specialist cards. Shuffle the Specialist ones, and deal them, face up, to the players. The Doctor cards get shuffled and put aside, face down, near the game board. One of the players gets to be the Banker, and their job is to give money to the players that successfully perform operations.

Alright, now for playing the game.

I honestly think the phrase "collectors edition" here is a joke. I bought this for my wife as part of her Christmas presents, and I was thinking I bought a quality version of operation like I remember as a kid.

The board itself was flimsy when we took it out of the package, and while the theme they set is pretty cool, oogie boogie doesnt light up half the time when you hit the metal contacts, and the parts are way too easy to get out of the holes. A three year old with poor motor skills wouldnt have any problem mastering this.

Even though I bought it as a novelty, I expected it to perform just a tiny bit, and after playing two rounds with my wife and her sister, we put it away disappointed.

Purchased for my five year old who enjoys the game.
Fortunately she is to young to realize it does not work as it should. Touching the sides with the tweezers does not always result in it blinking like it should. Like the original, once you play a few times and get a hang of it the game offers no real challenge.

My daughter had never played any operation game, so I decided to research one to buy. It was never one of my favorite games as a kid, but it is one I think everyone should try sometime. She is a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan and I knew she would love this one even if she found the game itself cheesy. She couldn't be happier when it came in the mail. The box it comes in is sturdy and cute. She plans to set it up with her Nightmare Before Christmas Monopoly game and the rest of her Tim Burton collection.

You play the game the same as you do the original Operation, but this version has really unique rhyming cards and little gruesome objects (ie...spiders, snakes, worms, etc...) to remove from Oogie, instead of the usual bones. Also, instead of the normal "buzz" sound when you hit the side, you get Oogie Boogie himself talking to you! He has 4 different sayings, such as "I'm going to die laughing!". His voice is perfect and it sounds just like it did in the movie. Not only does he talk, but his eyes and mouth light up green when you make a mistake, as well.

For those who complained about the game not being made as well as the original, they must not be remembering the original accurately. Operation has always been a cheaply made game. It's not made to play rough with, but if you put it away each time you're done playing with it, it will last for years.

My daughter loves The Nightmare Before Christmas and loves learning about the human body, bugs, and icky stuff of that sort. I was originally looking for the classic Operation when I stumbled upon this and had to buy it. My daugther loves it, its a tad easier than I remember Operation being, that may or may not be because I am sure my hand coordination is better than my younger self! However, the only downside is the pieces are kind of cheap plastic too and are bulky and easily picked up. Which is great for my three year old but takes the challenge out of it for mommy and daddy. Its a great product and I am thrilled with my purchase I just feel that once my daughter gets the hang of it in a few weeks it will start to collect dust :)

I ordered this game a few months ago and was super excited to receive it. Initially intended to give it as a Christmas gift but just couldn't resist opening it early, so, tonight, for a family game night change of pace, we gave it a go. This game has all the suspenseful fun of the classic original with the whimsical twist of a Tim Burton fantasy. It was a huge hit with all seven of us. Though the color scheme is typical Tim Burton (dark), they are still vivid and rich- extremely aesthetically pleasing. The game board/table seems a little smaller than the classic I remember as a child, but that could just be a discrepancy in my memory... It's been years! If you liked the original and like Nightmare, this game is a real win. The price was reasonable, delivery was fast, and the game is every bit as fun as it was thirty years ago!
