It reminds me of a small machine gun perched on its tri-pod. My new Yagi-USB plug-and-play directional antenna is fantastic. I gave it four stars on range only because nothing would satisfy my insatiable appetite for range. In terms of its performance, vs. the built in wireless adapters in the average laptop, I'd give it 10 stars.

Here's how I judged it: There's a motel about a half mile away with a wi-fi network. In between are buildings and pine trees. Normally, my laptop doesn't even see the motel network. Once in a while, it picks up a faint signal, but I've never been able to connect.

With the Yagi, I was able to connect and open the motel's log-on page. The best signal I recorded was 36 Mbps.

Here's another example: There's an unencrypted network about a block away. I've never, ever been able to connect to that network. There's a building between my computer and the network. With the Yagi, I was able to connect at 48 Mbps and surf comfortably, noticeably faster than with my Verizon Mi-Fi wireless card only a couple of feet from my computer.

I would definitely recommend the Yagi to anyone who needs to reach out and touch someone - like a 155mm howitzer. I'm an RVer. This would have saved the day many times in campgrounds with flaky wireless networks. For that matter, it would be handy for anyone who needs the maximum range from a portable device.

It's so darn sinister and futuristic looking - perhaps like a death ray gun - I suppose it could be used to scare off muggers when it's not pulling in signals from great distances.

Got mine from Amazon. It's always a pleasure to give them my loot.

Shipping was super fast and it was boxed and packed well. So far the reception is really good and a BIG improvement over the airport. Construction looks good as well. I only gave this 4 stars for one reason. The thing that got 4 stars was the software came on a mini-disc and since I am using a Macbook I had to find a desktop and find the file, email it to myself and continue with the install. They do have software on their site but it looks like the disk was a newer version. Once that was done it linked right up and gave me a definite signal improvement. I am in a remote area and I am going to do some more signal testing but so far I am happy with it. The tripod legs extend which is not really apparent when you look at them. They need to be extended all the way for stability. I got to test it last night at a site I have been to before with just a USB dongle. Before I could only receive a signal with about 10% strength. When I put this antenna on it got 98%! That was to a wifi hotspot about 1/3 of a mile away. Inside my office building my Macbook would only show about 75% signal to a router about 20ft away as it goes through several walls. With the TurboTenna I get 100% signal no matter which way it is pointed. All in all I think it is great so far and I can't wait to test it more. I think in time this will actually pay for itself by allowing me to connect to free hotspots instead of paying for wifi,

I own this High Power USB-Yagi antenna and the Alfa AWUS036H Upgraded to 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g High Gain USB Wireless Long-Rang WiFi network Adapter with 5dBi Rubber Antenna and a 7dBi Panel Antenna - for Wardriving & Range Extension *Strongest on the Market*. Tonight I compared both antennas to see if this new High Power USB-Yagi antenna will be my new reigning champion Wi-fi antenna.

Using Xirrus Wi-Fi Monitor software, I compared the signal strength of this Alfa AWUS036H with the 7dBi panel antenna to the High Power USB-Yagi Plug and Play directional WiFi Antenna 802.11n 2200mW / NextG USB-Yagi Plug & Play 11N Long Range WiFi antenna 2200mW. In nearly every test location, the Alfa rated 1 bar better and -10 RSSI (Receiving Signal Strength Indication) better (with RSSI signals negative numbers are better).

Although the 2200mW Yagi antenna is much larger and "twice the power", it pulls in a weaker signal and slower data transfer than the 1000mW Alfa 7dBi panel antenna.

Still this Alfa AWUS036H is the best performing wi-fi antenna on the market. My advice. Save yourself $60 and buy the

I have owned other hi power wi/fi antennas before, and they were big and bulky.. in fact, the most powerful one I had was large enough to be mounted on a pro camera tripod.. it took up much space.. This unit I bought is by far the best Wi/Fi antenna I have ever bought !! not only is it tiny, it even beats my huge unit.. I am visiting my Mom in a Northern state and she lives secluded on a lake with many acres of property.. the camper is at least a 10th of a mile away from my moms feeble cable provided wif/fi router.. At this point after using the Yagi, and through trees and high grass, I am picking up 5 out of 5 bars of signal inside a camper with the windows shut, and thought her whole house with 3 rooms with walls blocking the output path!! This little guy on a cheapy camera tripod works absolutely unbelievable.. I am picking up there neighbors down the road on a "each has 5 or so acres of property" at least 3 and the farther ones "1/4th mile as the crow flies" !! Very impressive for its simple little size, the usb cable that came with it is about 10 feet "wich is way more than most" This is not in the product information piece.. 10 feet is not to shabby.. Having used these types of antennas before on private websites, I give this baby a 10 out of 10 stars... Very nice little piece of hardware that can be used for many things.. go on a trip and you need to hook up to wifi at Hotels, party spots.. whatever, and this is small enough to bring with you with a little camera sized case.. I just got it a couple of days ago and having used high end, and expensive units, this little guy is way more than worth the money.. Trust me and buy this.. lol..Read more ›
