Made of durable ABS plastic, the pea-less and powerful UST JetScream Floating Whistle is an ideal wilderness signaling device with an ear-piercing 122 decibel (dB) shriek — making it one of the loudest of its kind. It can easily be heard over most natural and man-made noises. Compact, flat, and buoyant, the JetScream’s pea-less construction won’t freeze, clog or rust and is just as effective wet.

SO, now you know. This whistle works. It works well. Don't use it inside. Don't use it near pets. Plug your ears.
This whistle produces a sound that is thin and has no trill. The sound can easily be drowned out in an open / noisy environment.
I blew this whistle while a Canless Air O2 Hurricane is blowing near by, I could barely hear it. Tested it again with a Dyson Ball Vacuum turned on near by, again it is barely noticeable. In both cases, I blew it as hard as I could, and no, my ears were not ringing afterward.
It is also quite difficult to blow ( I am a runner and can run 3 miles under 20 minutes ). Its small opening makes it hard to seal with your lips. If you blow hard without holding it with your hand, you tend to spit it out.
Get an ACME 636 Safety Whistle instead. It is quite a bit easier to blow. It produces a loud confident sound with good trill. The ACME 636 is made in UK, which I consider to be a plus. This UST JetScream, on the other hand, is made in China.
ACME also makes official whistles used by referees. They also made the whistles used by the crew on the Titanic ( the famous ocean liner ).
For those who gave this whistle a 5-star rating, I urge you to give ACME 636 a try. The ACME has sound files for each of the whistles they produce on their website, so you can find out how they sound like before you buy.
You can use a whistle continuously for a long, long time and a high-pitched whistle carries a lot farther than your loudest scream. A whistle weighs nothing and takes up no space, but it could save your life.
I decided to buy these because I bought a camping stove sold by UST and I think they sell rugged equipment at good prices. These are NOT toys! Don't give them to kids and use ear plugs when you try them out. I didn't and my ears are still hurting. I don't know how loud 122 decibels is, but these are ear-splitting. A reviewer on another type of UST whistle suggested biting down on the mouthpiece and pointing the whistle downwards to get the maximum effect. He's right, it's even louder when you do that. Use ear plugs for testing!
I got the orange because it's easy to see and keep up with and a flash of orange shows up a long way away. Many a hiker has been rescued because someone saw a bit of orange equipment from a search plane. For hiking, orange is THE safety color. I also like the fact that they float and that they are "pea-less." They are 2 1/4" long and 1 1/4" at the widest. They have a short, strong cord that can be attached to a backpack.
I have two young relatives headed on a long camping/hiking tour through the Western U.S. They're energetic and intrepid, so I know they'll be backpacking into rugged areas. I want them to have a great time, but I also want them to come back home alive. So this is a modest gift to help keep them safe. Every hiker should carry a serious whistle and this is a dandy.
I'm still not sure that my hearing has fully returned.
This whistle is loud, light, and brightly colored for high visibility. It works when wet and I love the slim flat lines of it, which make it easy to tuck into clothing (unlike bulky rounded versions). But seriously--do not use this indoors.

the black lace could be a bit longer to allow the whistle to be thread through itself and attach that way - it lacks a clear way to attach as it currently is.
e lo fa bene.
ci sono dei fischietti di emergenza che hanno qualche decibel in più.. ma non fa molta differenza, in realtà.
questo pero galleggia, non ha parti in metallo, è leggerissimo e non ossida/sporca.
