So far I've used them to bind up the slack on the phone charger cords with great success. I like these in particular for that job because some members of my family insist on living in the dark ages with flip phones (I kid you not), and the older chargers are both unique to the phones (so that we have to keep one for each phone) and employ thin delicate wires (like those on earbuds). The padding on these doohickeys gives me confidence that I won't be blamed when the cords on those ancient chargers finally give out.
The five inch size is perfect for thinner cords, as the ones I mentioned, and also for gathering up slack on normal width appliance cords, as long as some length of those cords is excluded (as is the case when the appliance is plugged in but sits relatively near the outlet). For bigger jobs, like storage of extension cords, or simply holding several cords in close proximity to make the areas near the power strips or outlets look more tidy, the 7" version of this same product may be more appropriate (Ut Wire 7-Inch Flexi Ties Cable Wrap, 6 Count).
I've been able to use these just about anywhere I would have used Velcro Reusable Self-Gripping Cable Ties, 0.5 Inches x 8 Inches Long, Black, 100 Ties per Pack (91140) in the past (back when my addiction wasn't well controlled). The only place that I would have preferred the 7" model was my mom's bedrail, where I secured the wire for her Kindle charger for easy accessibility. This 5" tie did the job, albeit not as elegantly as a slightly longer version would have.
Overall, these are much easier to deal with than cable ties, even the Velcro variety. The padding is very soft and squishy, likely providing plenty of protection in delicate applications, like securing fine electrical cords. Plus, they just look cool. Everyone around here loves them, and even those who are normally fairly resistant to change didn't complain when I bound their charger cords with these.
I also like that the surface of these ties doesn't attract or hold dust, lint, or pet hair the way the Velcro ties do. So in places that get little attention, like behind the DVD player, they should stay cleaner looking. Since the whole idea is to reduce clutter, it seems silly to replace one mess with another, as my Velcro ties seem to do more often than not. Even when these do collect dust, as is bound to happen eventually, I expect that it will not be that noticeable on the matte finish of these foam-over-wire ties.
The only complaint I have is the variety of colors. Don't get me wrong, even the yellow is a nice shade (more pastel and less obtrusive than than pictured above). I just would have preferred the option of a single color in the pack though they do come in a mixed pack containing black, white and orange, Ut Wire 5-Inch Flexi Ties Cable Wrap, 8 Count.
At this price point there's little to lose, and if you're anything like me, you'll find dozens of applications for these next-gen cable ties.
Recommended for anyone really, but particularly those annoyed with cord clutter, as these are a simple solution that is easier to employ than previous generation cable ties.
1 package includes 6 ties.
They're two of each color of tie depicted in the picture above.
Very Re-usable, and will bend into whatever shape you need them to over and over again.
product material is some kind of foam exterior with a more solid core. (perhaps a bendable wire)
While these ties are brightly colored they don't stand out in contrast to black cords nearly as bad as the photo above makes them look.
There are NOT enough cable ties included to cover x1 gamers room with the following equipment; x2 tv's / monitors, laptop, x3
speakers, x 4 counsels, all the add-ons for a normal computer, antennae, x 3 lamps, x2 alarm clocks, and some other stuff)
(~ 18 outlets in use with the ties.)
These make for excellent "large" cable bundlers. (IE all the cords coming out of the back of my gamming HDMI TV (that's a lot
of cords)(I spread my x6 out throughout the main bundles & it's branches.)
an excellent product to organize the bulk of your cable problems. I recommend you purchase them if you have a large number of cables that need to be bundled or if you have a very small or isolated area of cables. If this is NOT your description check out Q-ties. I'm also using those in conjunction to these flexi ties. They are also offered here on amazon.com.
I should be punished for not looking on Amazon sooner but I finally did and found what I was looking for. These ties are flexible and very colorful. What I like most of all about these ties is that they can cover more than one spot. Most of the ties I have seen are thin and can not hold the end of the cords in place unless you have them on top of each other. Then you have a big lump to deal with. With these ties you can have them cover more space without wrecking them.
I really like these ties and glad I got them. I will use them a lot.
Basically I found these to be weak and bulky. I also had fun making Gumby-style characters out of them.
The 3-inch Nite-Ize wraps are shorter but hold far better, once in place they stay in place.
If you pay attention to the size/weight of the cable in the photos (like telephone line cable), then you'll purchase the right thing. IF you want one for large computer cable that attaches to your power cord, you'll be disappointed. Be a savvy shopper and measure ink pen boxes to get the visual and you'll be able to decide.
