This is the best peeler I've owned. It cuts well and keeps working, unlike the traditional side-swipe peelers I grew up with that always seemed to work better going backwards toward your hand than the safe away direction.
Be forewarned, this is sharp, and because it's double sided you have to be careful how you store it so an unsuspecting person doesn't reach in a drawer and slice his hand on it, and if someone did that, it might require a hospital trip, it is that sharp. I wish there were blade guards for safe storage. For now, I stand it on it's side near the back of the drawer with infrequently used objects and place one sharp edge against a wall so there is only one sharp side exposed.
Because the blades are so sharp, I initially had trouble using the tool for fear of peeling my fingers. I now hold my veggies with a fork and to save my digits. Sometimes my potatoes end up in the trash can because the peeler pulls them off, but they wash off fine and the time spent peeling is far less than using that old-style peeler.
The one huge difficultly I have is the julienne pieces getting jammed in the peeler so firmly I have to try to poke it clear with a fork or knife, which does not work well at all. Since I haven't used a julienne tool before this one, I can't say if this is common with this type of tool, but it is clearly the most frustrating thing about it.
Now it is a year after buying this peeler, and the welding has let go, so before I posted this review I contacted customer service with the picture I'm posting here and asked if it was covered under warranty or if I should buy a new peeler. They promptly returned my message saying a new one was already shipping out at no charge, so UberChef does in fact stand by their product and uphold the lifetime warranty. I'm so glad because with the sharp blades I can't safely try to put the fallen-out blade back in, and that old peeler is the utter pits to work with. I'm looking forward to getting the replacement.
I'd really like to give this peeler 4.5 stars, but since I do have problems with the julienne pieces, no blade guard for storage, and the welding did fall apart, I opted to rate this on the four side instead of the five side. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase and rate the company five stars for their outstanding customer service.
