Do not fear computer amateurs!

This operating system is not just meant for computer geeks! Ubuntu is easy to install, easy to use, and easy to enjoy! With this CD collection, it is a snap to install and they give you free customer support should you get confused. This allows you to have two operating systems on the same computer, so if you feel the need to keep your Windows or Mac software, you can. It will not slow down the existing operating system one bit. The software itself comes with tons of free programs and a Software Center to help you find more free and compatible programs. No anti-virus is needed because it is already safe and secure!

If your Windows OS on your computer is slow, I would definitely recommend adding Ubuntu to your computer. You can keep Windows for when you have those programs you absolutely must use on Windows, and then for fast internet browsing or whatever else, just select Ubuntu as you start up the computer. And don't be intimidated by the command line, to be honest, you will never really need to use it unless you are doing something super technical. The best part is, updates to this OS are always free so why not try it?

If you already know how to use your Windows or Mac, Ubuntu won't take hardly any effort to learn!

Excellent Alternative for Microsoft OS

The CDs arrived within the time period and in excellent condition. Documentation provided was also very helpful. I knew next to nothing about Linux before purchasing these CDs. However, I recently acquired an HP Pavilion tx2500 tablet notebook, and I decided to switch from Vista 32-bit to Linux 64-bit just out of curiosity. I was expecting problems based upon numerous reviews regarding missing drivers and difficulties with wireless network connections particularly with this notebook. I was very very happy and amazed at how easily and smoothly the 64-bit installation went. All drivers I needed (even tablet) were available and working by the time I finished. And with the inclusion of how-to technical CDs, I'm now an Ubuntu believer.

Like a....Installed for the very first time....

My jagged path to Ubuntu....

I'm not a professional developer, nor am I that Linux savvy. Before this distribution, I've only had some minor linux experience trying to install off floppy disks, which the build couldn't read my modem so I trashed that Idea and went back to windows.

Flash forward a dozen years:

My heap of a desktop that was almost as old as my daughter took a dump on me. Since this was my only means of computing at the time, I formatted and reinstalled XP off the disk I had for years. I came to realize that it didn't have any of the drivers for my ethernet card and I couldn't get online. Rather than steal someone else's laptop to burn drivers, I figured I'd give Linux one more shot since it has gotten better over the years. I ordered this set with my phone since the price was fair.

Like the low rated review, I thought this was a 4 dvd install, but I am not that disappointed that it's not. What you really get is a 32 bit dvd, 64 bit dvd, a intro to linux dvd and a library dvd. Obviously I don't need both install disks, but I may use the 64 bit on my laptop we just got.

My Ubuntu review:
I'm currently running it on an old Dell with 512 mb RAM connected to a 47" Vizio internet TV for a monitor. (yeah, I do weird things like this. I wanted a PC to net around with and stream content on my TV)

The install went very smoothly and Ubuntu actually found everything on my computer with no issues. (Mint Linux couldn't find my sound card)

The programs I use for general stuff were already installed, or they could be found on the file network and installed easily enough, so everything made the transition easier to linux. I'm still getting used to the feel, but overall, it's not a bad alternative. I looked through some other distros of Linux and found some KDE builds that are more like Windows, but they require RAM I don't have. In the end, Ubuntu offered the best environment to use, given my resources.

If you're new to Linux and want to jump in, this is a good start. I had it up and running in no time and can do just about anything I did with Windows. Visually, it's not as pretty as the KDE builds like Fedora, and the feel is like Windows 3.1, but it's growing on me.

If you're wanting to try different distros, you can download them and burn the iso to disk yourself and save money. Anyone with an average idea on computers can do this.

Burn image to disk
boot from cd/dvd to install (many have a try it feature)

I'd suggest playing around on an old pc first so you don't mess up data, and keep you're real one handy just in case you need to reburn or look at info.

PRIZIX is the way to go for all Linux distros

I am currently writing this review from the product that I received. I was previously using Linux Mint 17, and decided to switch to Ubuntu 15.04. The transition was pretty smooth. I do like the fact that Ubuntu is not as heavy as Linux, and did notice a slight difference in performance.

Either way, PRIZIX is my go to place to get all of the flavors of Linux. I think PRIZX does test the quality of the distros before they put them on the CDs. You can't go wrong getting your Linux fix from PRIZX. Why do it the hard way?

Excellent product for learning Linux

Thanks to the other reviewers, I decided upon this product and am glad I did. I installed it on an old laptop that had fallen into disuse (very easy to do). I was pleasantly surprised at how functional the graphic user interface was and the office suite is a lot like Microsoft Office.

The Library DVD contains the many training manuals starting out with exactly the complete novice entry level I needed. So I was quickly able to find the terminal application and start learning shell commands. As a DOS user from the early '80's I'm finding this pretty easy to pick up and am appreciative of the power it offers.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone wanting to learn about Linux.

Ubuntu 12.04 as a modern desk Computer Operating System

The product is excellent. I don't use it to play games.. and don't play games.. don't want to play games. I use it for business and participation in forums and it is excellent, fast, complete and it doesn't break. If it hits a rough spot, Ubuntu is usually there and fixes the problem.
With Windows, you need to know a great deal about the system to keep it running through thick and thin. You need to buy programs to keep it running too. You do not need to know a lot about how Ubuntu runs and you don't have to buy add on's to make it work fast and competently. It is excellent and all the elements needed for it to do well are in place, and in the package!

Installation worked well.

The UBUNTU installation disk worked well, however the two reference disks contained quite dated material.

Ubuntu seems like a good version
