Uggie: My Story Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 70 ratings

A heartwarming memoir by the Jack Russell Terrier that starred in The Artist and Water for Elephants.

Uggie’s memoir offers readers the true rags-to-riches tale of one ordinary Jack Russell Terrier who made it big in Hollywood.

For the first time, Uggie tells his story of rising from humble beginnings as an abandoned shelter dog to being adopted by esteemed trainer Omar Von Muller. Uggie details his time starring in commercials for everything from Kia cars to Bud Light.

Uggie eventually broke into the film world with his appearance in
Mr. Fixit in 2006. He went on to appear in Wassup Rockers and Life is Ruff. Uggie got his first serious film role in 2011's Water for Elephants where he starred alongside Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson. It was not, however, until 2012's The Artist that Uggie really dazzled audiences with his talents. In his memoir, Uggie will talk about life on the set of the Oscar-winning film and the role that many said should have earned him an Oscar.

Uggie's memoir doesn't just hit on his career highlights, it also takes a candid look at his his private demons: overcoming a painful past as a cat-murderer and finding redemption; living with shaking syndrome; his regret at never siring any pups before being neutered.

Uggie's memoir will include not just biographical information, but also advice from the dog himself. As is seen in his dazzling performance in
The Artist, Uggie is an incredibly talented performer. He honed his craft while touring South America each year as part of The Incredible Dog Show, and in his memoir, he will spend several chapters sharing practical training and dieting tips that he has developed over the years.

Review

"A rollicking romp of a read" (Dogster.com)

"Heavy on the laughs." (
People)

"Perhaps the most famous pet memoir since presidential pooch Millie told her tale of life in the White House in 1992, Uggie's story, filled with plenty of name-dropping, details his rise from puppy-hood to movie stardom." (
The LA Times)

"
Uggie--My Story is a wonderful read filled with humor and heartfelt moments told by one of the industry's icons. If you love Uggie (and seriously, folks, who doesn't?), you have to read this book. The Uggster's personality comes through on every page and reaffirms that, even though he walks on four legs, he's one of the best talents there is in Tinsel Town. My Take: A definite must read." (Caine Gardner Greencastle Banner-Graphic)

Uggie promises to bring his fans all the way back to his humble beginnings. (
Parade)

"Demonstrates the importance of a dog’s presence in our lives, on an off screen. As he writes (or barks), quoting an unknown author, 'Dogs are miracles with paws.'" (
The Hollywood Reporter)

"
My Story gives plenty of doggie dish" (The Tucson Citizen)

There have been books penned by dogs before, but never have I been more entertained by one more than Uggie's. Uggie with his collaborator Wendy Holden held nothing back, even with some of Uggie's dark secrets. A wonderful story of redemption, Uggie landed into the hands of someone who understood him and had the patience to work with him to become the international star he is today. And managed to keep Uggie's ego in check to boot, which is very hard for a Jack Russell terrier! Uggie's story has plenty of inside Hollywood tidbits and lots of humor...terriers are noted for their quick wit. Peppered with photos of Uggie throughout, this book was a wonderfully fun read. Whether you are a Jack Russell owner, a terrier owner or just have a love of dogs, you will not be sorry to read this book. A quick and easy read, a great book to curl up and read with your own furry four-legged friend; I highly recommend it.

This is a memoir of a little dog with a big heart.

Some parts will give you a knowing smile, for example the Binge-Gate and Goat-Gate episodes, the loss of his doghood, Uggie got drunk in a New Year's Eve party at home, his misdemeanours,...

Some are hideous, for example, the Cat-Gate episode.

Some are encouraging, for example, the auditions for "Water for Elephants" and "The Artist".

Some are worrisome, for example, Uggie's health.

Some are adventurous, for example, the trip to Mexico.

Some are heart-warming, for example, the bond between Uggie and his family (both in human and animal forms).

Some are amazing, for example, receiving the Golden Collar Awards and attending different social functions.

Throughout the book, you can feel the love and understanding between Uggie and Omar. Besides, the message of adopting animals is all around.

This wonderful book is so well written from Uggie's point of view, done so very well, so honest and beautifully done. Thank you, Uggie, for letting us into your heart and sharing with us all of the trials and joys of being the biggest Hollywood star that you are! The love that you have have for Omar and your family bursts through the pages. We're so happy that you've had the life you've had, full of love and respect and kindness in a strange world where you always hit your mark (with the help of a little sausage:) ! Bobbie Stasey

This is a wonderful light read giving the life and ties of an amassing dog. Very interesting of what he had to go thru to "make his bones". I had heard that Uggie was a rescue dog but this shows how close we came to never having an Uggie to enjoy, and how close we came to never seeing him in The Artist! THis is not just a kids book, and while a bit silly, it still paints a story of this Talent/trainer team. Anyone should enjoy this story

This is a amazing story of a truly amazing dog who has won the hearts of many the world over. Count me in as one of those hearts.

This book oppens a window into the life and soul of a little dog who became the star he was meant to be.

Humor, and some sadness too. It is all here. And the love between Uggie and his dad and trainer is the thread that holds the story together.

Anyone who loves movies, anyone who has ever loved an animal, read this book. It will melt your heart. It did mine.

I've been early awaiting the release of Uggie's book, and it's every bit as good as I hoped it would be!! A roughly chronological look into the life of Uggie, his many 'siblings' are briefly mentioned throughout the book from Uggie's candid point of view. The book describes so many of Uggie's behind-the-scenes views on everything he'd done while he was learning his behaviors and moving up the ladder to eventual stardom. A must read for everyone who enjoys reading autobiographies of celebrities!

The book is very nice and tells the beautiful story of an awarded little beast, some parts are too exagerated but there is no such thing as too exageated when we are talking about this gorgeous animal.

His writing is depp and insightful, some of the details are too graphic like the time he passed out drunk after winning the academi award, but I guess that happens to a lot of young actors.

This is the life of a performer, a dog of his craft, a pride and treasure to film making.

Rest In Peace Uggie!

Uggie my story is a totally engaging & endearing tale barked to us from Uggies point of view, from his humble dejected beginnings as a pound pup to his meteoric rise to international dog-star status. The book is filled with many funny and heartfelt tails it is beautifully written and hard to put down once you start reading. When you buy this book you also assist in raising awareness for the adoption of pound dogs, so please support a worthy cause. Even cat lovers will be as endeared to Uggie as I was, its hard not to love this adorable pooch & his story proves this.
