5.0 out of 5 stars Drill 1/4" holes to mount!!!
By JmB on September 2, 2022
Excellent, sturdy product! Im 240 lbs and this bar holds me no problem. The lags should hold most weights if installed properly. The instructions say to drill 5/16 holes. I would strongly recommend against this as your product will fail. Drill 1/4" holes to save yourself from serious injury. Worked construction for over 30 years and have used more lag bolts than I care to remember. You must leave material for the threads to bite into when drilling holes for lags, just like you undersize the drill bit for metal to leave room for a tap to make threads. The same principal applies to lags, the threads need material to thread otherwise it is just an unsecured dowel in a hole and will fall out. Hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Happy with this Ceiling Pull Up Bar
By Alex T on March 22, 2020
The best place in my exercise room for a pull up bar was the ceiling, and this bar is absolutely perfect.

The room has a 7 ft ceiling and I mounted it on two ceiling joists that were 24 inches apart. The installation template that came with the bar to show where to drill the holes worked perfect. My joists were about 1.5 inches wide and I mounted it 8 inches from the start of an angled wall (would not have worked on the angle wall, had to be the ceiling).

I’m 5 ft 10 and was a little worried about my head hitting the ceiling when I did a pull up, but the distance from the ceiling to the bar is perfect (its exactly 16.25 inches from the ceiling to the lowest point on the center of the bar). I thought about mounting a 2X6 board between the two risers and the ceiling like others have done, but it just wasn’t needed in my setup (and with only a 7 foot ceiling I didn’t want the bar any closer to the floor than it had to be)

I was also a bit worried about how sturdy it would be but it turned out solid. I’m 180 pounds and there’s no movement or sway at all when I use it. Its anchored into the ceiling tight. I also hung suspension bands from the bar and did a workout just to test the weight limit, and it worked fine … no movement in the bar at all.

The multiple different hand positions / grips make this a lot better than the straight pull up bar I grew up with (and the grips on this are very well padded).

Installation took a little over an hour because I carefully measured and used a stud finder to ensure I drilled into the middle of the joists. The following tips that others put in their reviews helped a ton:

> When you drill the pilot hole with the 5/16 drill bit, make sure the depth of the hole is 3 inches (measured
AFTER the bit is installed in the drill)
> Don’t tighten the allen wrench bolts all the way until the very last step (it’s easy to finish that last step and attach the bar to the risers, after the risers are mounted to the ceiling)
> Use a 17mm (or 11/16) ratchet to attach the risers to the ceiling (I used a 17mm drill attachment)

It turned out perfect and I’d definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a ceiling pull up bar.

2.0 out of 5 stars Atrocious Quality and DANGEROUS Installation Instructions
By Michael Akkerman on October 13, 2020
First, let's address the DANGEROUS part. I am not capitalizing the word lightly -- I think there is a strong possibility of someone getting hurt. Let me explain.

The lag screws provided for attaching this assembly to the joists are 3/8" in diameter. Instructions recommend pre-drilling a 5/16 pilot hole. In other words, you are supposed to drive 6/16 screws into a 5/16 hole. That's only 1/16 in of material left for the threads to grab onto, in Diameter, or 1/32" in Radius. That is NOT NEARLY ENOUGH! Especially given soft pine used in modern construction, the lag bolts can pull out of the wood. Please, if you do buy and install this product, pre-drill a 1/4 in hole, not a 5/16.

Next, the provided lag screws have a 3/4" long shoulder (part of the screw with no threads), picture 2. If the bar is being attached through a finished ceiling, this shoulder would be in the dry-wall, which is appropriate. However, when mounted in an unfinished location, like a garage, the shoulder would be driven directly into the joist. When combined with instructions that suggest drilling a hole undersized by only 1/32" in Radius, driving this shoulder into the wood is guaranteed to damage what little remaining wood does overlap the threads. This AMPLIFIES THE DANGER of having the bar pull out of the joists!

Lag screws provided with this product should have a 1/4 in shoulder, not 3/4 in. As is, for non-finished ceiling installations, either get different hardware or counter-bore the holes before installing the screws.

Finally, let's examine the absolutely atrocious build quality of this pull-up bar assembly, as documented in the attached pictures.

With the riser-to-bar bolts barely snug, pictures 3 and 5 show just how warped the assembly is. (Amazon seems to re-arrange pictures compared to the upload order...) With one pad flat on the ground, the other sticks up by a huge amount. This means that the two holes in the round bar are significantly tilted relative to each other in two axes. In other words, they can't drill two straight holes.

The last two pictures show how this translates into hole-to-hole spacing. Spacing is supposed to be 24 in. Instead, we have 24 1/4 on one side and 24 3/4 on the other side. So it's duck-footed by a full 1/2 in.

First picture shows finish quality. That speckle pattern is indicative of paint having been sprayed over a poorly finished, possibly rusty, surface. How long before it comes off?

Images 4 and 6 show how the risers are bent. Bending square tubing like this is not easy. To avoid buckling, which is what those wave patterns are, during the bending process, the tubes must be heated to a high temperature to soften the steel. Obviously, this was not done. While not a huge issue in and of itself, together with the warpage, the buckle pattern shows that the manufacturer simply does not know how to properly produce this pull-up bar.

Now, the instructions are very specific in that they expect you to assemble the bar and the risers "loosly", then attach the risers to the joists, and only then tighten the bolts attaching the bar to the risers. In other words, the manufacturer expects the user to bend the product into proper shape during installation by tightening the screws. Fair enough for reasonable assembly tolerances. NOT AT ALL appropriate for how warped and bent my assembly was. Can easily strip the screws attaching the bar to the risers. Personally, I did not try. I expect more quality for my hard-earned money. This "product" is going back.

This is a very negative review, so you may wonder why I gave it two stars instead of 1. The reason is that the design is actually quite good. A problem with instructions is a different thing than a problem with the product. Proper lag screws are a Home Depot way -- annoying but solvable. Drilling a proper pilot hole is, obviously, trivial. (The concern is that there will be people who will follow the instructions as written.) The real problem is that the factory can't drill two straight holes in a round tube. There is only so much effort I am willing to put into fixing a problem that should not exist in the first place...

5.0 out of 5 stars The best choice!
Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on March 6, 2019
I'm 6'2" and 200 lb. I mounted this pull up bar on my 9' garage ceiling. I couldn't be happier with my choice. It is rock solid and gives multiple grip positions. All grip positions are comfortable with optimal diameter of the bar and very nice padding. Easy to install, although I didn't depend entirely on the template, but used a Franklin stud finder for added precision of locating anchor points. I also didn't have a 5/16" drill bit, so I used a 19/64" bit out of my "Easy-Out" kit, so I had to set my drill to reverse rotation to drill the holes. It worked just fine. I looked into other ceiling mounted pull up bars, but they were just straight bars with no padding. I can't say it enough .... this is the one! I know I bought the right one.

Very good bar for suspensions. I also bought various accessories for my training.

Installation in my garage, this way I walk past every day... I have no choice to do, chin up, abs... But the sealing is just a bit higher, not for me, for my kids.

The only problem I had was with to add the joists in the ceiling (attic).
