Scott Jurek designed the SJ Ultra Vest to be the perfect all-around product for everyday use or high-end racing. Comfort and performance are outstanding due to it's technically advanced design and features. The SJ Ultra Vest 2.0 adjusts to fit a wider size range with the addition of side adjustment straps. Version 2.0 is also stronger and more durable with a 340gm Power Mesh, Silnylon 66 for increased seam strength, and all pockets have been reinforced with edge banding for better gear retention. An added size zipper improves access to an optional reservoir. Scott Jurek really understands what runners need, and that is exactly what he designed.

Unsure of how I would like to have two bottles on my chest in the front, I took the plunge on the UD. I must say, after the first 30 minutes, I never even remembered they were there. Sloshing was very minimal. Bounce in the overall pack is non-existent once probably adjusted.
I have come to LOVE the two bottles upfront. Its nice having the option of two different fluids. Water+Flat soda. Water+Electrolytes. etc etc.
During a recent 50M ultra, the number of UD packs seen are a testament to the quality, durability, usefulness of the brand. The 2.0 versions I believe are improvements over the originals.
One primary reason for this pack over others, was that I could keep my hands free. LOTS of upfront storage for gels, bars. phone. etc. The super-stretch material is such that the back holds a surprising amount of stuff. During training runs for an r2r2r, I intentionally loaded up the pack as full as I could. It was over 10lbs. Once on my back, I really (seriously) forget it was one. Weight is supremely distributed. No bounce. I have some very mild rubbing/friction at the side of my neck. Once because I didnt have the chest straps adjusted. Once tightened, rubbing stopped. a second time was when a chain I wear around my neck moved toward my collar bone and rubbed on the packs piping. Again resolved easy enough.
Price was very reasonable. This pack will goes with me on family camping trips in which we hike. GONE are the day of Papa having to be carry everyone stuff in pockets of uncomfortable (for hiking) backpacks.
This pack was very well received by others in my running club.
There are likely better, more well written reviews out there. But this pack was worth every single penny. Awesome. 5 stars without question. I can't even think of what I would want changed on the pack. Extremely well thought out and planned. Look online as Scott Jureks video explanation and you can see how even the materials were planned.

The only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars was that the large pockets on the sides of the pack, which are big enough for a camera or phone, were hard to access by trying to reach behind you when wearing. You pretty much had to take the pack off. If you just used the pockets for storage and not for quick access, while wearing, then it would not be an issue. Despite that, I would totally recommend this pack. I have used GoLite running pavks before and I like this one much better.
I was introduced to the previous version by a friend who runs ultra-marathons and found the fit and lightweight construction to be excellent. The version 2.0 is updated but not compromised.
In terms of price you get what you pay for and I have had no issues.
A recommend for anyone going the distance.
