The Bottom Line:
I’ve owned and tested a lot of Bluetooth speakers including a few Ultimate Ears. I have the Megaboom so I can directly compare the two. The Megaboom was easily one of my favorite speakers but now after using the Megablast, this is my favorite overall bluetooth speaker. It’s louder and sounds crisper than the Megaboom. The highs and lows of this speaker are great along with the bass. If you haven’t tried a 360 degree speaker it’s pretty amazing since you can listen to it from pretty much anywhere. I just used this at my kid’s school and people were amazed how loud this little speaker could get. The charging base makes it much more convenient to charge than having to take off the bottom to plug in every time. The battery life is long and at full blast it falls a little short of the stated battery life but that’s expected when at full blast. The iOS app allows for the speaker firmware to be updated and you can also control more specific sound preferences. Overall if you’re looking in the premium Bluetooth speaker range, I would recommend looking at the Ultimate Ears Megablast.
Sound quality is truly amazing
Battery life I’ve heard awesome
Build quality is really great
Can’t use it as speakerphone.
Unless you have the $40 overpriced dock it’s strange to charge on the bottom. Have to flip the device on its head while charging.
No Alexa ring to tell you it is hearing you, just have to trust it hears you and see it respond. Does fairly well at this.
No Aux out, why not?
Everyone seems to be saying the Megaboom is best bang for buck. It probably is. I’ll be using mine at home the most so I like having Alexa built-in but it’s a pretty hefty premium.
First use it disconnected for no reason and no matter what wouldn’t reconnect.
Unlike other UE speakers, cannot turn off the startup and power down sounds.
Nasty buzz, static, hiss, bacon sizzle all the time. Speaks to the quality of the electronics (or lack thereof) that such static is so bad that it is audible with music playing. I almost think I received a counterfeit product it is so bad.
All of this is AFTER a software update on a brand new product.
Will return immediately! Run!

The reason I chose both of these speakers to compare was that at the time of ordering they were the same price point. They also seemed to be the most popular as well.
So with that said, here’s a USEFUL comparison between the two speakers that has information you can use to make your choice.
-the bass just rumbles out of this little cylinder! The quality and force of the sound is INSANE!
-sharp, clear, accurate sound, no harsh cracks or hisses
-there’s an equalizer in the app!!!! Highly adaptable sound profile
-it can be fully immersed in water so it’s awesome in the shower!
-flawless Bluetooth even from across the house (two closed doors, 40 feet away and still pumping)
So the Bluetooth connects flawlessly with my iPhone 6S, which was the first device I paired to it. However, my Acer laptop, Microsoft Surface, and Samsung 58” UHD TV have all had difficulty maintaining a stable connection to it. The main issue is that the sound skips and gaps, as if the speaker is trying to catch up to the signal. It doesn’t happen regularly, but I do have to restart the device and completely turn the speaker off to resolve the issue. It’s definitely an inconvenience. I won’t remove any stars as I use this speaker with my iPhone 99% of the time, so for my purposes it is still an amazing speaker. The sound quality!!! WOW!!! However, this is something to consider if you are planning to use the MEGABLAST with multiple devices on a regular basis.
-Alexa can’t hear you over the sound of the music after passing 1/3 volume capacity
-had some issues with wifi connectivity
-no buttons to skip tracks, only off/on, BT discover, and volume.
-app isn’t great
-no auxiliary (AUX) port.
-zero connectivity to other speakers
-charge port is located in an awkward position (bottom of unit)
-buttons are really handy for skipping tracks, volume control, etc.
-app is well designed
-beautiful and accurate sound, very smooth voice
-very stable design, doesn’t want to tip easily
-flawless Bluetooth connectivity
-you can connect more than one speaker, any in the Bose BT speaker lineup
-VERY aware of the onboard sound adjustments when listening at high volume
-bass just wasn’t as present, felt a little hollow
Honestly, the sound is phenomenal for both! HOWEVER, a key difference that NONE of the other reviewers bothered to mention which pushed the MEGABLAST well past the Revolve in terms of performance was that there is an EQUALIZER on the MEGABLAST app. Hands down the best feature to have for a small speaker that is expected to play all genres of music.
The Bluetooth range is also superior with the MEGABLAST. I could get approximately 25% further from the MEGABLAST (40-50 feet away) than the Revolve (30-40 feet away) before the sound started to gap out. When listening to music on a speaker this size both distances are unreasonably far away. So this is a factor that should have very little baring on your decision.
As I said, the sound quality is amazing for both. However, I’m somewhat of an audiophile, so here’s the skinny with the sound. The tones on the Bose were very balanced, but they got slightly faint when dealing with a large amount of bass. You are also quite aware the Revolve is making its on-board adjustments to the sound while listening.
With the MEGABLAST the sound is very CONSISTENT. You can tweak the sound parameters depending on what genre you are listening to. Because of this very underreported feature you attain SIGNIFICANTLY better performance than you can get from the Revolve.
Again, it’s a portable speaker so it’s not going to sound as full bodied as an actual indoor full sized sound system. But with the equalizer feature you can pull a much richer sound from the MEGABLAST than the Revolve.
As for unboxing ... really people? Is this really a thing now? Does anyone actually CARE about the appearance of a box you almost immediately recycle or throw into storage? “Hey everyone! Check out my wikked new speaker box.” Said no one EVER!
Yes, the charger cord is in an awkward location, but again, WHO CARES?! It’s not like you have a Bluetooth-battery-on-board speaker plugged into the wall while you’re using it. If you want a speaker that you can use while plugged into the wall, buy a REAL stereo.
So I have to address this, a paid reviewer said when they were charging it they were worried it would “roll off the table as it was round.” Ok, tiny geometry lesson here circa grade 2. First off, it’s a cylinder. It is not round. Secondly, just rest it on the other flat surface (the top) while it’s charging. This is how cylinders work, they have two flat surfaces. Simple. Ok, moving on!
Yes, Alexa is pretty useless too, but that’s what buttons and apps are for. I mean really, the MAIN focus here should be SOUND PERFORMANCE, not whether you can talk to it or not. It’s a speaker, not a digital assistant.
Yes, it’s true, you cannot link another speaker to this fella. But seriously, this speaker is like $250-$300 bucks! If you want to buy and link another speaker to it, well ... you’re looking at like $600 man. That’s the cost of a pretty nice stereo system, or at least well on your way to purchasing one. This is a simple, portable BT speaker with phenomenal sound! It’s not designed to be some crazy complicated, linking, blinking, bells-a-whistlin’ supercomputer. It’s a speaker that’ll work in the shower as well as it will at the top of a mountain. And if it gets caught in a dust storm, falls in the pool and sinks to the bottom, you can pull it out, dry it off and, guess what, IT’S STILL GONNA WORK GREAT! I think you gotta ask yourself, what more do you really need here?
All in all, the MEGABLAST is a fantastic purchase, and far superior to the Bose Revolve. It’s a great sounding little speaker, worth every single 5 cent coin. I would highly recommend it.
The software/app for this is horrible. The speaker keeps crashing and turning off after 20 minutes of play time and the app for it looks like it was written by a couple of interns... And you can't pair this this other UE products - who thought that was a good idea?
-Alexa on the go
-Does not seem as sturdy as my smaller ueboom
-unable to be incorporated as part of a zone for multi room audio playback (this was sad)
-initial setup had some problems
-you have to yell at it (even though you may not be mad)
UPDATE ENDS HERE/
First off, why did I get a refurbished product? NOWHERE it mentions it not being a new product. The box is clearly damaged on arrival and I can see it wasn't from how it was packaged.
The package mentions that I'm supposed to have the Charge Up charging base with the speaker in the box (I was not expecting it), which is still a clear indicator that the speaker isn't new. I'm missing the ring/plug under the speaker that is supposed to come with it.
In no way I'm supposed to get a refurbished/renewed product without being told that's what I'm buying. That is false advertising.
For the speaker: The sound is great, clear and powerful. Everything works very well and I'm satisfied of the performance.
The equalizer is great when switching from music to podcasts to get clearer speach.
I didn't test the waterproof capability of the speaker but I'm happy it is there.
Overall worth every penny IF I was getting a new and complete product, which is not the case.
I was also considering Bose and JBL as well as Sonos One.
Outside, it works well. I feel like if we had a party I'd need a second one and sync them to get good coverage, but overall it is good. I'm a bit disappointed in the base.
Clarity, spacing and 360 degree sound, sound balance, good bass, great portability, charging dock is slick and comes with order, IPX7 waterproof, very easy to use
Cons: not "great" bass at higher volumes
Summary: The bottom end at high volumes was a bit lacking for me.. BUT... if you want a great little speaker with great sound (and bass) at low to mid volumes, this is awesome! If it sustained the low end freq's at higher volumes, it would have been a struggle with the JBL I chose (JBL only because of better bass delivery at higher volumes). Yes, a bit on the high price side, but the quality of this UE product and its sound are top notch! Built like a tank, and it's loud! .. you won't be disappointed.
UPDATE: One of the thing I’ve come to realize, is that the battery does not last the same when you’re only connected to wi-fi. I remember charging it to 100% one day and didn’t use it for 2 days, and by the time I used it again I could only listen 2 hours of music before de led light turned red and the voice telling me ‘critical battery’. And for that, I’m going to have to take a star away.
Was a little nervous spending 300$ on a speaker but , I won’t be needing to upgrade anytime soon.
I Googled Top Waterproof Bluetooth speaker for 2019 and this is what my resources said was it , they weren’t kidding !
Little pricey but hey! If you got a few extra bucks kicken around , I recommend this for a few reasons ;
Quick shipping and great dealer to deal with
(I will be excited when Sonos comes out with a wireless / waterproof someday too :) ~ cheers
-I am impressed with the sound quality
-Very good battery life.
*Bluetooth connectivity is very erratic. It may decide to stay connected or not (specially with Amazon FireTv or EchoDot). Fortunately it is not all wasted as it seems to work well with my phone and be able to listen to music that way.
*Tech-support on the app and website are not great. I haven't been able to speak with an actual person to figure out the issues. I will update my review if/when the issues are resolved.
