Excellent earphones with lots of accessories and easily replaceable parts

I've had these earphones since 2009, and they continue to be my favorite set of canalphones ever. Previously, I had a pair of Etymotic ER6i. I loved them, but one of the cables eventually separated within the earphone (which I later found was common with that model). It's a fixable situation, but requires a soldering iron and a little skill to do it. I took the situation as a good excuse to look for an upgrade, and I ultimately landed on the UE TripleFi 10 earphones.

While I loved the sound of my ER6i, I enjoy a full bass and the TripleFi 10 delivers a little more on that front. Looking at the specs, the TripleFi show a range of 10 - 17,000 Hz, whereas the ER6i are listed at 50 - 16,000 Hz. With their triple-flanged tips, the ER6i did boast that they had up to 36dB of noise isolation, versus the TripleFi's specs of 26dB. In practice, however, I haven't found any real difference, even with the music turned down pretty low. These are excellent at passively blocking outside noises for a truly immersive listening experience.

One of my favorite things about the TripleFi 10s that set them apart, though, is the accessories they come with. My ER6i canalphones came in a fabric, velcro-sealing pouch. The TripleFi come in a nice metal carrying/storage tin. They also came with a wide variety of ear tips, a cleaning tool, a couple of 1/8" plug 90-degree adapters/extenders, and a 1/8-to-1/4" adapter so you can plug them directly into things like your guitar amp or monitor. The ear tips are especially nice, and one of the included sets is actually made of memory foam. A company named Comply makes several replacement tips for these with a variety of feature options (T-500 maximum noise isolation,Tx-500 maximum isolation + wax guard,Ts-500 maximum comfort,Tsx-500 maximum comfort + wax guard), so if you like the memory foam tips but yours get lost, torn up, or just a bit too gross after a while, fret not. The 500-series of Comply's ear tips are what you want for the TripleFi 10s, but if you like the memory foam tips, be sure to look at their compatibility chart on those product pages, because they make tips for hundreds of other earphones, too.

And perhaps one of the best features compared to my ER6i - an easily replaceable cord. If the cord breaks (and the way headphones are generally treated, this is something that WILL happen at some point, even if many years down the road), you can simply buy a replacement like the FiiO RC-UE2 Replacement Cable and pop it right in. No soldering required.

One last note - if you like these headphones but need ones that include a built-in microphone, Ultimate Ears makes the TripleFi 10vi earphones to fulfill that need.

All in all, a great pair of canalphones with excellent sound reproduction, a comfortable fit, and superb noise isolation. Highly recommended!

great in-ear monitors

These are the best IEM's i've tried. Lucky enough to get mine a few years ago when Amazon had a deal of the day (for a quarter of the list price) on them.
They are very clean, articulate monitors. Sparkling highs and deep, rich bass, punchy but not muddy or booming (fit in ear is very subjective for good bass). I had years of experience with UE's before, having had the old Studio3's (1 driver) and the 5's (2 drivers). These have three drivers per earpiece (3-way speakers).I can say that the midrange is noticably better in the 10's vs. the 5, and there is less sibilance, much more flat and smooth response, even though i thot the 5's sounded great until i heard these for direct comparison. They seem very efficient as well, but not quite as loud as the Studio3's, but much better response.
I don't think i would pay the list price for them, but IF i could afford it, i would also have the custom-molded ear monitors UE's for the astronomical prices.
They are worth every penny i paid for them however and more.
I had a problem (bad connection)on one of the ear's cables. UE (Logitech) told me to send back the whole set, and they sent me a new set of earphones to replace them promptly--good customer service.
They are rather large for IEM's though--wish they were smaller--small enough to lay your head down and not hurt your ear at least ;)
Get a bit uncomfortable after long use, but i havent found ANY in-ear phones that i find completely un-fatiguing either! i use the custom Comply foam tips in mine. Ear tip fit is very important for good sound quality (esp. bass) and comfort. Find the best one for your ear canal first, then enjoy.
Listen to mine mostly with a modified cMoyBB headphone amp that i put into a Penguin mints tin. PERFECT CLEAN FLAT RESPONSE. Love mine. One of the best audio purchases i've ever made.
