I recently read the 2nd edition and got a lot out of it, but it already felt dated as Facebook changes so much so often. So I got the 3rd edition and went through it in about 2 days. It's been completely re-written and updated with what's working now.
If you don't know the authors, they're real experts. Perry Marshall literally wrote the book on Google AdWords and is a direct marketing expert. Keith Krance has been running a very successful digital marketing agency for many years, and I've been working through his Facebook training products, all of which are terrific. There are also a number of guest authors, including Ryan Deiss, the founder of Digital Marketer.
The book will take you from 0 to launching your first Facebook campaigns and getting actual momentum. It's mostly structured around principles Keith learned while training and flying commercial airplanes for years before he started his agency. The Facebook Flight Plan is an engaging way to structure the content and makes a lot of sense.
You're taken through some basics like setting up a Business Manager account, getting the necessary tracking in place, adding people to your account, etc. Then, you go through the foundation of marketing on Facebook - researching your target market, setting up audiences, and the most important piece, getting the right hooks and offers in place. As they say in the book, success on Facebook is not about ninja optimization - it's about getting the right offer in front of the right people, and the book takes you through exactly how to do that.
There are in-depth chapters on how to craft the best ad copy and creatives, what funnels work for different types of business, and how to optimize and scale campaigns without seeing increased costs per action. There's a chapter on creating one of the most powerful ads - video. And there's a ton of bonus content.
If you're just starting out on Facebook, get the book and read through all of it - it will save you a ton of time. If you've been advertising on Facebook and not getting the results you want, get the book and see what you're missing. If you're already a Facebook expert, you're probably not going to learn much, but you could jump to Keith's or Perry's more advanced training.
There's a lot of info - if you're just starting out, it's going to take some time, but take it step by step.
The only negative I have is that there are a lot of images in the book, and in the Kindle version, they're hard to see (and there doesn't seem to be a way to zoom in). That's not so much a criticism of the book (it's probably an issue with Kindle), but it would be great if the authors provided the images in a separate PDF.
Can't view the illustrated examples for ads that Perry talks about on the kindle version! Major fail. I contacted Perry Marshall support to see if the illustrations are somewhere on his website or they could provide them through other means and this is the response I got. Shouldn't someone have thought of this?
Unfortunately, we don't have access to the digital graphic files from the book and can't send you the figures.
Please feel free to contact support should you have any other concerns or questions.
Jeanette, Customer Service
Perry S. Marshall & Associates
So I left this review and then went a step further and sent a PM to Perry on Twitter. Perry responded and looked into it further for me. Took a while but I eventually was contacted by the publisher, they're working on trying to recreate the issue on their end and are working on making things right. That's all anyone can ask. Thank you Perry and everyone for being professional and caring enough to try to help me. The info in the book is great and so is your customer service!
The timing is great - Facebook is getting more challenging and the race is on to master it while keeping up-to-date. Thanks for publishing this!
If this sounds like an ad for the book, it’s because the book helped me learn to create better ads. If it doesn’t sound like an ad...I need to read the book again.
