The content is more expansive than keywords alone; also included are excellent chapters on writing Google ads, following the company's editorial guidelines, split testing, conversion tracking, bidding strategies, and more. The manual also goes beyond Google AdWords to cover landing pages, Google's Display Network, advertising on YouTube, Google Shopping Campaigns, Google Analytics, and remarketing (aka behavioral retargeting), which the authors call "the single most profitable online advertising strategy."
The chapters on marketing are particularly astute. For example, an ode to the 80/20 rule (with material extracted and condensed from Marshall's book on the subject) takes the popular formula and demonstrates how it can extend to online marketing and "just about everything you can measure in a business."
An exemplary Google AdWords manual that could easily prevent costly mistakes and help boost profits.

There is a lot of fluff. Almost completely blank pages. Stories about nephews. Pep talks. I would have preferred a slimmer, more to-the-point book that didn't insult my intelligence by masquerading as more than it actually is, which is a somewhat bloated "get rich, you can do it!" book by an author who never drops his sales act.
I think this book is used by the author to sell his other books and webinars. 60% of the information in the book is not about Google Adwords. In addition, the related information is very poorly structured. For example, about keywords and keywords planner the author is talking in chapter 3, about the writing of google ads in chapter 4, and then about setting up the campaign in chapter 7, then about Ad Extensions in chapter 13, about negative keywords in chapter 21. He split the most important information into the portions and spread them around all book. I am a beginner, and it is very hard for me to follow up and to move on with the setting up my 1st campaign. I'm going to buy another book that is more clear and with the logical organization.
It can't be stated enough that Search Engine Marketing is not the same as Brand Advertising. This was the 2nd book I have read on the topic. The book will teach you Direct marketers set one goal from their ads: to compel a measurable response from their prospects. What better way to measure response than AdWords as it keeps track of everything expecially when tied to Google Analytics.
I loved the example they gave in chapter 13 about the Wright Brothers. It is often the sidebars that made this book interesting. This book was packed with information without reading like a textbook, so the little stories I could tolerate. However,I never did understand the "Uncle Claude Sez segments", I could have done without those. Also, like many others I never did find the $85 Google Success toolkit. Overall this helped me run my Adwords campaign better. Also Perry's website is great if you get a chance to check it out. The Split testing tool is fantastic.

I've gained tremendous insight into how to navigate and improve my online marketing results at least twofold. Great read overall.
