Reviewer: Kimberley Brind, Global Social Marketing Leader, Oracle
How many of us dream of writing a book one day? I know I do.Yet, for me, the challenge of actually doing it has felt such a colossal undertaking that a dream is all it has ever been until serendipity struck in the form of Dee Blick and her latest book The Ultimate Guide to Writing and Marketing.
As a lifelong B2B marketer I guess it is only natural to have developed what I like to consider a healthy measure of cynicism. I see the word ‘ultimate’ in a headline and immediate think ‘yeah we’ll see’. So, it was with great admiration I discovered the claim in this title to be entirely bona fide.
From start to end, Blick gently guides you through the journey of becoming an author. With step-by-step practical advice and a plethora of real-world examples, her book demonstrates how to approach the crucial content gathering process, how to best consider your readers and their needs, how to commit your story to words, how to self motivate when life distracts, how to avoid the most common pitfalls, how to position the value of your book to publishers, how to market your book through advocacy and literally everything else in between.
Not only have I learned from Dee how to write a bestselling book, I also have a ton of new ideas as to how to apply her book marketing techniques to my B2B social campaigns. For example, why not encourage reader reviews for the vast amount of whitepapers we publish.
Thanks to Blick I will now write that book of my dreams and her book will be by my side throughout.

I love this. Whether you are thinking of writing a book now or in the future, it's an enlightening, interesting, comprehensive and incredibly useful guide. Plus it's written by an actual best-selling author so you can really trust the authority with which Dee speaks/writes. As an editor myself I know that the keys to successful writing are, in many cases, clarity and relevance. That is the beauty of Dee's advice - it's easy to understand and covers a wide range of topics. Perhaps the best bit is that it not only gives you the facts and knowledge you need to put pen to paper, but provides the inspiration and self-belief so many of us need to get started. Buy it now.

Hi there, my name is Jake Pearce, I'm writing a book about increasing ROI on brands using Meanomatics. I think Dee's book is a must for all people who have the ambition to create a great book, it's so well researched, based on Dee's own experience and she's incredibly generous with how specific the advice is. In my book it's that magic balance - it's a ONE stop shop to get the low down on the subject. It is accessible enough to read easily and thorough enough to leave no stone unturned.
I would personally recommend it to anyone.

If you're contemplating writing a book, this is a 'must read'

This book ticked so many boxes for me that I lost count! Not only does Dee explain in simple and straighforward terms how to construct a bestseller (whilst fighting off the demons you'll meet along the way) but she also offers a number of alternatives when it comes to publishing AND she explains in superb detail how to market it.
All three aspects are important, but together Dee's advice makes for an unbeatable and invaluable resource if you are considering embarking upon your own literary journey.
Dee's undoubted skill as a 'marketeer extraordinaire' comes in to play when she talks about how to promote your book, and truly I cannot stress how vital her advice is. Writing a book is one thing, but marketing it successfully is so important and Dee clearly understands what works and what doesn't, and she isn't afraid to share it! After all, the world is full of undiscovered genius- this book will make sure your masterpiece doesn't suffer the same fate.
Huge thanks to Dee for writing this book; I now feel so much more confident in getting started on my own creation.

AUTHOR OR BUDDING AUTHOR? - READ THIS BOOK
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 1, 2014Verified Purchase
This is a great book; full of advice and real-world experience..and thankfully, no theory. Dee leaves no stone unturned and is very open about what works / what doesn't; these are absolute gems. One of the chapters is about the power of radio to increase sales. I can vouch for this. I was driving back from Hampshire after visiting a friend and thought I'd like some music but instead of tuning into Radio 2, I pressed the wrong memory button and found BBC Radio Sussex, where a lady I'd never heard of (Dee Blick) was talking about getting one of her books translated for Chinese readers. This interested me so I resisted the temptation to correct my error and listened to a fascinating interview. When I got home I ordered Dee's latest book on Amazon (15 Masterclasses). This proves her point about using all available sales channels and I guess it proves the Law of Attraction as well. I had no hesitation in buying this one based on my experience of the last and will definitely be adopting Dee's strategies, processes and templates on my literary journey.

I Will Be A Best Seller Because Of This Book.

I met Dee Blick when she was giving a keynote speech publicizing this book at a Networking conference. At the end of her speech she invited anybody to give her their business card to receive the first chapter for free via email. I jumped at the chance because at the time I was two thirds of the way through writing my own business book, 'How To Network Your Way To Success' and the idea of being able to glean some free advice was to good to turn down.
Once I had received Dee's email It was clear that the book was going to be a gold mine of well informed advice based on her experiences when marketing her own publications. She takes you through how to overcome the difficulties in writing, how to identify your audience and what platform is best for you to publish through. From there she goes into a sort of hyper-drive of content all aimed at taking your book into the best seller lists. She always writes in a down to earth - if I can you can - style that both informs and inspires. Make no mistake; I hold this book as one of the best business books I've ever read.
Thanks to Dee I now have a publishing strategy and have already begun to implement her 'run up to publication' marketing tips to build awareness before my book becomes available on Amazon. Further than that, I have started to book myself as a keynote speaker at Expos and conferences where I will offer chapter one for free to anybody who gives me their business card. A tip I picked up from Dee both in her book and in real life! I think that is the key to my belief in this book. Dee is seen to do as she advises others to do. To quote the front cover, 'If you have a book in you, this book is for you' and I couldn't agree more.

There are always different views on how to write a successful book, but detailing this from experience, knowledge and a respected marketing background gives you great confidence that the advice you are being given is going to give you a strong springboard to success.
Dee’s new book has given me practical and focused advice and strategy. It has made me all the more determined to undertake my first book (which I have constantly delayed) – a task that I now see is within my reach to succeed at.
The chapters that I particularly valued were:
Chapter 8: Behind every bestselling book is an editor – having felt that there was no true value in an editor, having read through this chapter, I now can see why having one is essential;
Chapter 9: How to create a great book title – there were lots of useful nuggets and I particularly loved the advice on straplines;
Chapter 12: So many choices! How to publish your book – this was in-depth and really practical with lots of insider tips, and I hadn’t appreciated just how cheap it could be to produce a paperback and e-book;
Chapter 15: Use PR and sell thousands of books! – this was a real eye opener for me and great to have so many templates and releases that I will be able to base mine on;
The Marketing Chapters in general – coming from an experience marketeer, these chapters were so detailed, practical and comprehensive that I now feel I am ready to pursue my goal.
Dee certainly practises what she preaches.

What a fabulous book! Dee writes in a way that is so easy to understand and put in to practice. It really is as if you are having a personal conversation.
Perhaps what I like best is the no-holds-barred approach. Whilst Dee is encouraing and tells us we could all write and market a book successfully, she leaves no doubt as to the amount of commitment and dogged determination needed to make it happen - successfully.
This is my first quick read through. Now I know the steps I need to take to write my book and, more importantly, the space I need to be in before I start. That's my first step - to ensure I'm ready to make that commitment. And when I'm there, Dees book will be at my side as my support and inspiration throughout my journey.
Thanks Dee!
