...a must for any serious visitor. --The New York Times
Best guide to Kauai...Ultimate Kauai Guidebook. --National Geographic Adventure
Author, Andrew Doughty, covers Kauai thoroughly. --Los Angeles Times
Most travel titles are put together in a few weeks by visiting travel writers. Wizard guidebooks take over a year to compile and the writers are residents who personally and anonymously review every facet of the island. Their maps are the best you'll find. From restaurants to helicopter companies to scuba to beaches to trails. They see it all and show you the best the island has to offer. They also reveal who's the worst and who to stay away from. All told in a frank, humorous way that keeps the reading fun.|The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook, 9th edition|The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook, 10th edition

My suggestion on what to do with this book: Buy it and use it as a supplement to other research. Don't let it be your end all/be all guide book of Kauai. I found using this with Yelp/Open Table/Trip Advisor reviews was most helpful on which things to do and which to skip.
Everything we did, we used the tips and advise from this book and was not disappointed!!! Such great info
we stayed in Lihue at The Marriott Beach Club
rented a car from airport (cheaper than getting from hotel and its just a shuttle ride to airport from hotel)
Took the car and went to the North Shore for a full day - Anini beach was our favorite but had fun visiting Hanalei Bay, Tunnels Beach and Ke'e beach as well. on the way back to Lihue that evening, We stopped at the best Mexican food spot in Kapaa called Verde. we got the yummiest margaritas and burritos! However, do not mistake this location for the Lihue location... not the same at all and you will be disappointed!!
We did the Captain Andy's 5.5 hour Napoli coast catamaran tour and loved it. lots of dolphin and whale watching. beautiful way to see the south and west side of the island. That afternoon we spent the day cruising the south shore and relaxed on Kekaha Beach. Stayed there to watch the sunset. Such a beautiful day! On the way back to Lihue, we stopped in Poipu to eat dinner at Keokis Paradise. Such a fun spot!
Yes, we also did the helicoptor tour and went with Blue Hawaiian and had a great time. WOW, this is a must do on your trip! you get to see the entire island and the pilots are fun and knowledgeable. Blue Hawaiian was also super easy for us to get to...our hotel shuttle took us to their bay at the airport.
Enjoy your trip!!!
I am an avid reader of reviews and planned some parts of our trip out based on Google reviews prior to reading this book. Honestly those were the worst parts of our trip and I wished I had waited until I had this guide. You will find that several things on the island have "target populations" that they are marketed to and if you're not part of that population, a good review may not mean it's good for you! Do yourself a favor and purchase this guide before you plan your trip.
