The game contains 12 new fighters, in addition to those found in earlier game versions. It also features new game modes including a spectator mode, and the 'Heroes and Heralds' Mode. An Expanded Roster of Fighters

The highly acclaimed fighting series adds 12 new legends to the robust Marvel vs. Capcom 3 lineup, bringing the total overall roster of characters up to 50. This includes zombie-slayer Frank West on the Capcom side and cosmic defender Rocket Raccoon from the Marvel Universe. The new character options also include Phoenix Wright, Vergil, Nemesis, Strider and Firebrand from Capcom and Nova, Iron Fist, Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider and Hawkeye from Marvel.

New Features and Modes

In addition to new characters, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 features a host of enhancements and features to improve the game's balance and online functionality. One of the biggest additions to the game is the fan-requested Spectator Mode, which allows fighters to watch live online matches together. Also, available as free downloadable content after launch is the 'Heroes and Heralds' Mode, a new single player and multiplayer team-based mode in which player unlock brand-new abilities with upgrade cards, customize favorite characters with new powers and compete in groups as either heroes defending Earth from Galactus or as one of Galactus' Heralds.

PS Vita Specific Features

The power of the PS Vita allows its version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to play and look virtually identical to the console releases, but it also provides players with control functionality unique to the Sony handheld. Utilizing the PS Vita's front and rear touch screen and pad, players can unleash simple combos by 'mashing' the screen with taps. The basic level of these 'touch' combos ensures that players who choose to use standard combo input patterns using the Vita's d-pad and face buttons are not at a disadvantage, as more advanced combos are always available if the right button pattern is entered correctly. The touch pad can also be used to unleash hyper combos by tapping a character's full hyper combo meter, and to tag in a new character from a player's team by simply touching the image of that character.

This might get a bit long so bear with me.

I'm going to go into the differences and Vita-centric differences to this game. There's already plenty to of reviews out there for the game itself.

For starters, some of the reviews have it wrong. You can't play people online Vita-PS3. It's only Vita-Vita and PS3-PS3. What cross-play means is that if you buy any DLC, you can share it between both games. (for example, the costume packs). Secondly, Heroes and Heralds is day one DLC (Downloadable Content for those who don't know), but it's free and already comes included with the game.Overall this mode is a great way to keep the game feeling fresh. You level up, collect cards, play matches etc.

CONTROLS-I've played fighting games for a long time. I've gone to tournaments, I own an arcade stick, I've dedicated a significant amount of time into learning the game. UMVC3 on vita is great. The buttons on the vita are great for pulling off complicated combos. The closeness of the button actually helps so when you have to press two buttons together to pull of a special moves, it's very easy. I use the d-pad but the joystick feels great. I like it a lot better than the Dualshock b/c the range of movement is smaller thus letting you pull of moves faster with your thumb. As someone who is used to using an arcade stick (Hori V3 with 8-gate) and dislikes the dualshock. I've gotten very used to the Vita controls and find them very comfortable for playing. Controls were my biggest issue when I bought the game but I figured I could at least practice some of the combos or how things link when I don't have time to do it at home. I was very surprised at how comfortable the controls were and how I keep finding myself playing this game a lot more than I initially thought.

I'm not a technically-minded fighting game player so I can't really speak to the specifics of the gameplay system and whether or not it lends itself well to technical play. I can however say that the game is a hell of a lot of fun to play, and is really pretty impressive for a portable game.

The graphics are on par with the HD console versions of the game. The game's 48 default characters appear large and detailed, and animate fluidly. If there's any slowdown it's so minor as to be virtually unnoticable, and the majority of the time the game appears to run at an impressive 60 frames per second. The backgrounds feature fewer animated elements, and certain levels that scrolled in the console versions don't appear to here. Loading times seem to be roughly on par with the PS3 version.

I had concerns going in that the Vita's smaller face-buttons buttons might hamper the gameplay a bit, but I surprisingly found myself having an easier time of it than I did even the PS3 version. The D-Pad is solid, and pulling off complicated combos, special moves, and supers works like a charm. In fact I find myself enjoying the game even more than I did on the PS3. The Touch mode is...well, it's there. In it you can tap the screen to perform combos and activate your supers and X-Factor, which while neat to mess around with for a bit quickly leaves the game feeling like an effortless cake-walk to complete. I think it's something that most folks might be inclined to mess around with once or twice, but I don't see it having legs.

The game features all the same gameplay modes as its console cousins do, including Heroes and Heralds (which is day-one DLC).

I LOVE THIS GAME! I bought this game when it first came out, unfortunately I did not check out Amazon because the prices on here are great and the makers of this game put so much detail versus other fighting games cough cough Mortal Kombat cough cough. Overall, if I lost this game, I would probably buy another copy of it on Amazon.

I had the chance to snatch this one up while it was 19 bucks. Worth every dollar. There's alot i can say about this game but i will keep this review short and sweet. Graphics are up to par with the next gen consoles. Picture is very crisp and clear. Sound is great when using headphones. Lots of characters to choose from. Only prob i had with the game is that i felt with the number of buttons the Vita has, all the moves felt crammed together when trying to execute them. The Vita could sure use 2 extra buttons so that it's easier to pull off moves. I feel like its a button masher game that anyone can pick up and play without actually having any skill or awareness of what their doing. It is a must-own for Vita owners though and i highly recommend it.

Got a vita to play games with my bf and this is our favorite vita game. The training is cool, but I'm so new to the game that I have no idea what I'm doing or how to do combos right. Really a game you need to practice! But a great game :)

Very fun game. My only beef is that the the left thumb stick sometimes gets in the way when using the D pad for sweeps and combos. That however is not this game's fault. It is due to the Vita's design.
