I'm really conflicted about this particular volume. I love the Ultimate Spider-Man book. Brian Michael Bendis, who has been writing the series since issue #1, is a master at dialogue between the cast and has managed to keep this series fresh after over 10 years of writing it. There are many moments where the dialogue is laugh out loud funny. Mr. Bendis should be writing movie screenplays. The art in this thing though... woof. Distracting at best. This is the balloon head Spider-Man. David Lafuente take on Spider-Man is just not very good. I guess he was going for a manga style, but it is so wildly different from the standard set by Mark Bagley that is does distract from the story. He does get better as the issues progress, but it is still pretty off putting. There is even a little inside joke toward the end about Spider-Man having a Charlie Brown head.
These story arcs take place after Ultimatum and contains the first 14 issues off the renumbered Ultimate Spider-Man. I'm not too crazy about he post-Ultimatum universe, but Bendis has still managed to keep Spider-Man a top notch title. It is the only thing from the Ultimate imprint that I still read.
This volume is typical of most Marvel hardcovers. Nice sewn binding, high quality paper. It is a nice package.
