The genesis 100 holds your guitar securely by the headstock. The body rests safely against cushioned inert padding-there are no chemical emissions to mar the lacquer finish of your guitar. A guitar pick storage slot is built into the top section of the stand and there are no pieces to assemble. With widely adjustable height (33-45.5") the genesis 100 will hold even the longest basses. I have a lot of guitar stands and didn't need another, but when my bandmate pulled this guy out of a small duffle bag I knew I had to have it. I'm a big fan of minimalism, so when I can bring my whole setup to a coffee house in a guitar case and a duffle bag I'm a happy man.
This stand does not sacrifice any sturdiness or security for its size. The angled arms provide contoured grip for acoustic and electric guitars. The angle at which it holds your instrument keeps the center of gravity in the best possible place. My tall bass guitar is probably the most stand-unfriendly instrument I've seen, but it feels completely secure in this stand.
The makers of this stand definitely paid attention to details. The pick slots at the top of the center rod are a great touch. Only a real musician would have thought of that. I'm convinced this is in fact the ultimate guitar stand.
I have been a fan of Ultimate Support since I first introduced about 1994. If you are looking for an excellent stand, then this is it. I primarily play an Ovation guitar, and because of its rounded back does not sit nicely on any other brand of stand. The greatest thing about these stands is that they safely and securely hold the guitar by the neck, right behind the nut. The tripod base is wide, and nearly impossible to tip over...even in windy stage situations. Height is adjusted so that the guitar hangs with no pressure on the cords.
They work well for solid body guitars, and standard acoustic guitars. Don't let the price fool you. This is worth every cent.
Note: If you are comparing this stand with the Ultimate model that has a gravity twist/lock - My recommendation is "don't bother" The lock ends are not durable if you actually use this stand a lot, every week, all year. I have had that model, and the higher price is not worth the frustration when it breaks.
